And about your app question. All paid apps have a 24 hour trial period. So you install it, try it out, and if you don't like it, return it within a day for a full refund. this is as per Android market regs.

Aldiko (ebook reader)
Documents to Go (Microsoft office suite)
Toutieur (Twitter Client

Root Paid apps:
SetCPU (for overclocking)
Droid Root Pro (From when I first rooted)
DroidMod (current rooting mod)
