Although most people assume Steve Jobs is capable of snapping his fingers and perfectly functioning versions of the iPhone for every network and carrier would then magically fly out of every consumers a$$ on the planet... it's not that simple. How does CDMA handle that issue of no data+voice except when in WiFi? Some pretty useful apps are rendered null and void. Or how to handle carriers with prior agreements that may pose issue problems (example: GetJar and Sprint have a deal for free apps that may compete with the App Store)
As a lot of nay-sayers of other systems point out, different phones, different carriers, all of these start posing problems and lead to fragmentation, or even bigger delays in their roll outs. The iPhone would be no less prone to it with this "mass launch".
