Are you stupid? but Apple has $40 in the bank

http://www.macdailynews.com/index.php/weblog/ comments/apple_shares_hit_new_all_time_intrad ay_closing_highs_100323/

If Apple wanted to outperform Google they would release the iPhone to every Carrier in the USA, then perform the same deals with carriers to only push the iPhone. Apple would create selling incentives for sales Agents of the different carriers and could destroy the smartphone industry as we see it.

For as evil as everyone sees Apple they sure do turn a blind eye to Google.

actually, why do you hate Apple so much?

I agree with the first post, Apple has some nice dynamic products, yeah expensive. I just don't care for their control freak ways especially with the iPhone. Yeah the first one should have been what the 3g was.

You can hate all you want, but the iPhone has rocked the market and is a fantastic product. Even with it being locked down. To be honest, for the vast majority it doesn't effect them. But on a positive side, it does have standards, which make the usability excellent. As great as Android is, its becoming more and more fragmented, and that is not good. BTW I am a Nexus One and iPhone owner and user.

My sister is spreading false propaganda, telling my mother things like mine and my mothers Droids are jailbroken, and that if something goes wrong with them a Vzn store won't help her.

I told my mother that she's saying these thing cause she owns an Iphone and if she needs support, if her battery clunks she has to go to an Apple store. Heck if I know where there's an Apple store in Ct, she might have to go to the 5thAv Apple store in Manhattan.

Anyway I've been to a Vzn store twice already to get help, no problems, no questions like where did I get my Droid. This guy showed me how to setup the screen lock pattern.

My sister making my mother panic really pissed me off!

So does your sister post here with the user name Bluecoyote?

And about your app question. All paid apps have a 24 hour trial period. So you install it, try it out, and if you don't like it, return it within a day for a full refund. this is as per Android market regs.

Paid apps I have:
Beautiful Widgets (clock/weather)
Aldiko (ebook reader)
Documents to Go (Microsoft office suite)
Toutieur (Twitter Client

Root Paid apps:
SetCPU (for overclocking)
Droid Root Pro (From when I first rooted)
DroidMod (current rooting mod)

It worked.

Do you use the "My Verizon" app found in the market. I keep trying to enter a dollar amount and it gives me this invalid crap. There shouldn't have to be an amount due for me to make a payment should ther? I've also tried making a payment directly on Vzn's website.

Also when I'm typing while posting on PS there's no cursor for ,e to follow, if I want to go back to delete and reenter something it's very difficult. Any idea what the deal is with the absense of a cursor?

I don't use the my verizon app.. I just pay by #pmt. #bal will tell you if you own anything yet/ (you won't be able to put money on account right away)

There is no cursor unfortunately because it's a touch screen. I've gotten really good at tapping where I need to delete stuff and doing it that way, but if you are using the physical keyboard, the D-Pad works for this as well.

If there's no cursor then how do you know where you are and what your about to delete???

I was just laughing thinking to myself that I have *611 for customer service, and I have you for customer service also.

I don't understand what this being a touchscreen has anything to do with there not being a cursor to keep track of my location while typing.

See, how I do my budget is I pay half of all my bills each payday so I guess I will just have to put the Vzn money in a bank envelope until my first statement generates, I was told after my 1st statement, I will be able to make payments every 2wks.
Trust me, if the money stays in my chkg acct it'll get spent, so I'll just withdraw it and put it in a bank envelope.

When you press on an area, there should be a vertical line (like in MS word) where the OS has your "Cursor." it takes a bit to get used to. I admit this is one of the more annoying parts about typing on your phone, but it's not so bad. The only thing about the line is that it doesn't "blink." but rather just sticks there, so if it is next to an I or L or something with a line like that, it could be hard to spot.

My feelings on rooting and jail breaking are, if you don't have a must needed app, or reason, don't bother doing it. OK you can toss in those who like to tinker. These are expensive devices, sometimes they go bad. And if you can't boot or restore to legal software, you are out a lot of bucks.

BTW news tonight, someone did an untethered jailbreak solution, the incidentals haven't been released. If you're awake, the information is on BGR.

I have a backup of the stock rom on my phone, and if worst comes to worst, I have a protection plan and a new one is just $40.

I saw that wireless jailbreaking thing.. should be interesting. Google voids your warranty with rooting, but they seem to be pretty agnostic about it. Apple takes it like you shot their dog.

Menno,
I do know its something to do with VZW blockage of ports, you CAN get onto the Freenode, and goto that #android.

There is a way to get on the efnet, you can ask on freenode, or I can ask for you. There are a bunch of guys with droids using that server. BTW this happens with all VZW devices.

You can google the question too.

I found this so far" You will have to use a port other than 6667. I am using AndroidIRC to connect to freenode via port 7000 on 3G and I never get kicked off. When I would try connecting with the default port (6667) it would time out. In fact, I'm in #androidforums on 3G right now."

Although most people assume Steve Jobs is capable of snapping his fingers and perfectly functioning versions of the iPhone for every network and carrier would then magically fly out of every consumers a$$ on the planet... it's not that simple. How does CDMA handle that issue of no data+voice except when in WiFi? Some pretty useful apps are rendered null and void. Or how to handle carriers with prior agreements that may pose issue problems (example: GetJar and Sprint have a deal for free apps that may compete with the App Store)

As a lot of nay-sayers of other systems point out, different phones, different carriers, all of these start posing problems and lead to fragmentation, or even bigger delays in their roll outs. The iPhone would be n...

They're not paying just for hosting the device.

They are saying: We want this device to do well, we realize to do this, you will need to advertise and take a heavy loss up front, so when the device succeeds, we will offer you a portion of the profits.

They're not saying: We'll give you 100million dollars to shove this crap phone on people. From the article, it looks like companies didn't have to sign anything saying they wouldn't accept and promote other devices so I really don't see the issue.

Google's ALWAYS been about advertising. Remember, they are an ad company first and foremost.

If companies adopted the platform because of the potential profit it's because they saw the value in it.

It is because Apple is suspected of being one of the major culprits for informing of the practice. ATT has held off on Android. Now that ATT has announced a common interest with the other carriers in adopting Android, this means that no matter what carrier you chose, Android has a device. This leaves Apple as the only OS with one carrier while Android now has All. This opens up huge marketing strategy and opportunities for Google.

When Vzn launches LTE, and if Las Vegas is among the first 30 cities, do you think the upgraded backhaul will benefit Rev.A speeds also? I know Rev.A is capable of 3.1mbps, so I'm thinking the upgraded backhaul might help real worl speeds of Rev.A improve. Do you think so too, or?

There will me some improved backhaul, yes. And, the aircards/early adopters, will hop on 4g sooner, which means more bandwidth for everyone else.

I'm not in a small town of 40k ppl in Pa like you, so I'm not getting speeds of 1.4, the highest I got downlink was 1.2mbps, but it seems as though Vzn's upload speeds aren't too bad, I got 6 & 7 hundred kbps on the upload a few times, not too bad, maybe even better than ATT with the upload speed.

I downloaded the Speedtest.net app in the market, so that's what I used, some server in Phoenix I think.

EVDO RevA is optimized for upload speed and low latency, which is why even if you downlink is bad (I've been as low as 500kbs) my uploads are still 700-800 or so (which is great if you're uploading files/pictures a lot)

Also try a couple different servers. There used to be one near me (hosted by the local dsl company) that gave me terrible speeds 100kbs up, 600+ping. You'll find that one of the servers near you will consistently perform better than the others.

D/l speeds aren't anywhere close to as good here as the 1.4mbps you get where you are. I don't get iver a megabit all that much.

So that's why I'm hoping that if Las Vegas end up being among the in itial 25-30 launchb cities that Rev.A will benefit from the improved backhaul.
