Review: LG VX-8100
Here's my take:
Reasonably nice to hold and handle, although the flip open angle is a little too snug for my liking. I like my phones to open flatter.
The speakers look like a big womans hips.
I was seriously tripped up bu the video recorder. I've been using a Sharp 903SH to video blog my travels around the world and half way through the intro to my spiel the LG stopped recording! I thought it was broken. It sure was a shock to go back to 15 second (15 seconds!) video recording. That obviously a Verizon hamstrung requirement because LG can do it I'm sure. Being able to put videos as wallpaper on the inside or outside is cool though.
VCAST is pretty rubbish IMO. I've watched the episodes and The Daily Show's the best, but even that only shows you one story at a time. The quality is really marginal. Sports are virtually unwatchable and like you mentioned, trying to watch outdoors in the sun really washes out the screen. Overall through there's really just a dearth of content.
On Bluetooth, oddly enough my VX8100 does have DUN. I did manage to make a call but I wasn't sure if it was EVDO or not. Apparently you have to dial #777 to get the Internet which I just found out, so it might work.
For some reason, my phone didn't come with a soft rubber plug where the headset goes and the charger plug just falls out. That's not too bad but it does look like there should be a cover of some kind over the headset jack, that's the only part of the phone that looks cheap.
I think I'll keep it for a while, but it's definitely not where it should be yet.
