Verizon Clarifies Android 2.1 Update for Droid
Oooh!!! So close to 2.1! Well I suppose it can't be that far off.

When your charging your Droid, does it ever stop charging an star again, and so on? I blame the charger, but my N95 does that sometimes.
Also, I just thought of this one just now when I was leaving for work. Can the Droid charge from my laptop even if my laptop is off but plugged in?
I really like that feature of being able to be connected via micro usb to my laptop and charge at the same time.
My N95 can't charge through the mini usb.

It sort of does that. The Droid ships with an Eco Charger. it will stop accepting a charge once the battery is full. So after sitting there for a bit, it will briefly start a trickle charge to keep the battery topped off. I don't have an issue where it is partially charged, stops and then starts again.
Your laptop has to be on because unless it is power is not running to the USB port

The pre couldn't be a droid because it had a crappy marketing team, and worried so much about "cool effects" that it felt very underpowered (imo)
WebOS is nice, and it's very polished.. but it's almost too polished. It's like an iphone.. if you don't like tweaking your phone you'll most likely like it.. but it was far too frustrating for me in the time I handled it.

Oh, I honestly don't have much of an opinion about WebOS, I definetly think it has potential though. But the hardware, I agree w/most everyone, screen isn't big enough and the keyboard is way tiny.

the difference being that the update for the Storm was actually needed for usability. 2.1 is eye candy

I can't wait, it's nice to have something new ya know. I upgrade every year so I can stay current, and the NEW OS is something to keep me happy until around Decemeber lol.

The new gallery app is nice.. but you can get it without root if you know where to look. Pinch Zoom in the browser works a LOT better than dolphin, but I still prefer double tap because of how it formats the text.
The biggest differences is that the 2.1 stuff (news and weather widget) runs better than it did modded to 2.01..
Other than thay, not much.. The app drawer is a bit more responsive, auto brightness seems to work a bit better.. like I said, tweaks, not earth shattering.. well, I guess if you use Yahoo mail you're happy.. but seriously.. Yahoo exists?

I'm happy with what Android is doing with their phone system, and that manufactures are jumping on the design new phones.

2 issues: 1 it's March 18 2010 and I am very impatient, I'm using 2.5y/o ph, N95, and I want to take advantage of all the advances of the past 2+ yrs. So I'm impatient, and I don't feel like waiting til the rumored launch date of June for the Supersonic. Plus I am on the border of whether a
4.3in screen is too big. I'm sure it's AWESOME for web browsing, but I wonder what it's like holding a phone that has a 4.3in screen up to my face for a 45m-1hr+ phone conversation.
Secondly, the Droid is !!ONLY!! $25 on Amz! ! ! That's way, way too good of a deal to pass up + I can use the $ money saved to buy spare batteries for MyDroid, and terminate 1 of my 3 lines on my ATT acct that isn't out of contract, that will cost $130.

Well right now I'm working nn freeing up my mothers line, trying to get my sister to take my mother on her acct, my line is out of contract, and I have 1 other line that I'll have to pay a $130 etf on.
Even though there is # portability now, I have a 203 Ct ph #, and I live in Las Vegas, and during checkout with both Amz & Vzn I'm required to give my Nv DL # for identity reasons. Plus my current address for billing. And I'm nervous that I might not be able to keep my 203 Ct #.
See, it's kinda sentimental to me cause it's where I'm from, plus the 3-digit prefix is where I was born, Bridgeport, Ct.
But I understand theres some law that your ph # has to be attached to your billing cycle.

You know you worry too much, Jay. Stop sweating small stuff. As long as Verizon has a license in the 203 (and I KNOW they do) then you can port your existing number. You don't have to have a Las Vegas number just because you live there.

Sounds like a politician that got caught in a lie. The real deal is, they found some problems just before the Go-Live? That is the most believable version I have herd. They are not going to stop it at the last minute without good reason. They want it to be a good as it can. It's good for business, good for the consumer and good for their customer support lines. And one an one and on... However, I want it now! I promise not to call or complain. 🙂

They were only ever intending to release it to a portion of customers today (all the leaked memos point to this) I think the release was smaller than expected, but it still happened. There might've been an error, but considering a ton of people with droids are already running 2.1 (via bugless beauty) I doubt it's an issue with the software, and more distribution related.

Verizon's message of "Just wait a little more, its almost here" - isn't that what they've been saying constantly every day for the last three months? They shouldn't be sending out ANY messages about the update until it is completely ready to be sent out to ALL Droid users. This is just totally frustrating. I don't want to hear that they're testing the update out on a small group of people. I want the update on my phone!
