What if I get a Droid one week after the 2.1 update is issue? Will my new Droid update automatically? How would that work if I don't currently own a Droid, but get one shortly after all the existing owners get updates. Will I be updated automatically out of the box?
!!Droid!! is ONLY $25 on Amazon, ooohhh YEAH!!!
I'm currently working on getting my mother to go to one of my sisters accts, and then badda bing I will be a Androider!!!!!!!
Check it out!!!!

Within 2 or 3 minutes after the phone is activated, the Droid will receive the OTA software update.
...
Good, cause I want all the goodies that come with 2.1, live wallpapers, !!multitouch!!, and so on, and so on!
...
MennoMar 17, 2010, 1:52 PM
So are you getting a Droid now?
...
Frinkin $25 on Amz! Way, way too good of a deal to pass up.
I'm on ATTs website right this moment filling out the "Transfer of Service" request to email to my sister for her to take my mothers line.
Sooner that gets done, sooner I can order MyDroid from Amz and I will become an Androider.
...
MennoMar 17, 2010, 3:49 PM
I think you'll really like it 🙂
If you have any questions, just send them my way.
First download: Advanced Task Killer (or the one you prefer). you'll want this asap.. When you're downloading apps, your first reaction will be to open them all and mess around. This could cause your device to slow down. have this running from the start and you'll be golden.

I read that the micro use charging isn't very long, I'm not very fond of that. All I ask for is 6ft!
So when your tethering your Droid does it get hot? Can it tether & charge @ the same time?
...
MennoMar 17, 2010, 4:01 PM
it tether's and charges at the same time.. it doesn't get super hot, but I didn't tether much before I rooted, and once you root you can set it to underclock while charging, which really reduces heat.
The charging cord is shorter, but it hasn't annoyed me too much (I charge it in a dock anyway,
...
Oh that's cool. I intend to get 3 spare batteries, unfortunatly they aren't as cheap as my N95 batteries. Droid batteries are $20 each. I anticipate the Droid fitting in my current case, it was originally designed for the HTC TyTn 2, I think.
It being black I bet it'll be a HOT phone to hold in the summer time in loser Las Vegas.
I'm not sure how soon I'm gonna get the Droid, it depends on how swift my sister is in taking over my mothers line. Hopefully no later than the middle of next week.
I'm such a frk, I'm @ Carl's Jr right now, and I'm mixing Dr Pepper & Hi C Fruit Punch, 80% Dr Pepper 20% Hi C Fruit Punch.
You guys don't have Carl's Jr back home though.
...
MennoMar 17, 2010, 4:31 PM
nope... I just remember it from the movie idiocracy: "Thank you for purchasing Carl's Jr.. F**** You!"
...
Hmm, I've never seen Idiocricy, I'll add it to my Netflix list.
...
MennoMar 17, 2010, 6:07 PM
Same people who did office space
...
I'm glad it tethers & charges @ the same time, cause tethering drains the battery quite a bit, or @ least on my N95 it does.
...
Btw, how exactly does Amz activate the ph? They aren't the ph company?!!?
...
MennoMar 17, 2010, 7:45 PM
they are a retailer
...
Sure their a retailer, but how can a retailer assign a ph# and activate a phone? Isn't that something the actual carrier does?
...
MennoMar 17, 2010, 8:08 PM
Nope, as a retailer, we could set up a phone number etc.. through the Eroes portal
...
So what exactly are you suggesting? After Amz gives me a 702# that I !!don't!! want go to a local Vzn store, or ?maybe? you could hook me up, preferably with the # I currently have?
...
MennoMar 17, 2010, 8:18 PM
there should be an option to port over your number using amazon when you go to sign up.
DO NOT CANCEL beforehand
...
So even though for identity, credit, and billing purposes I have to enter my Nv DL # + my address, I will still be able to port an out of state #?
...
MennoMar 17, 2010, 8:25 PM
possibly.. I've been able to push it through.. I dont know what level of access they have on their system.
...
If their system can't, then I just accept whatever # I get, and could you "push it through" for me? Please!!!
...
MennoMar 17, 2010, 8:53 PM
you can get customer service to do it
...
Btw, that standard called OpenGL or whatever that was announced a wk ago for Android, that's going to help developes make much, much more enhanced and much cooler 3D games for Android, right? Are Droid owners going to be able to take advantage of the more advanced and 3D capable games that will probable be coming out like what 2-4 months from now you think?
...
MennoMar 18, 2010, 8:19 AM
Yes. The Droid has a very good GPU, the games that are our now using the NDK look amazing
...
Does your Droid ever turn off and restart completly out of no where on you? My N95 does.
...
? about this not being able to do voice & data simultaneously thing. If I'm reading a webpage on MyDroid's browser but I'm not sending or recieving data, can I still recieve a call? What about a voicemail notification will that come to MyDroid if not sending or recieving data?
...
MennoMar 19, 2010, 5:27 PM
When you get a call it pauses data session and gives you the option to receive or ignore. Verizon phones prioritize voice so you never miss a call while browsing. Also, once a page finishes loading, all data use ends so texts etc will show up like normal. The data voice thing isn't as big of a deal as people make it because of this.
...
Oh! Ok! Glad to know.
Hopefully my 2nd ph w/Vzn will be a 4G Droid2!
Oh and btw, I chatted with a local Vzn store about my porting # question, they put me @ ease!!! I called ATT and took the password off my acct as your fellow Vzn counterparts instructed me to do. How this is going to work is when I order MyDroid Amz will asign me a 702# and then when I recieve it I take it to a Vzn store and bind bang boom back to my good ole !!Ct!! Ph #.

Hey Menno, Bluecoyote is picking on me for wanting a Droid!

Ignore him. Blue knows as much about Android as my grandmother understand programming.
...
Update btw, my mother
(57y/o) wants a Droid! So tomorrow she's going to go to a Vzn store and get a feel for one. She will pay me $40/mo, $30 for the data + $10 for the extra line. I told her that I'll help her to use the PDAnet app, and I told her about the ShopSavvy app.
Do many 50+ y/o's buy Droids?
...
MennoMar 19, 2010, 10:58 PM
my dad is getting one. there are a few people who I know who have it. My dad wants it for the GPS+ making a "Styx" radio station on Pandora.
oh BTW, basic family plan:
2 lines 700 min, unl Text: 99+60 for data. so two lines is 159. the 9.99 add a line requires a family plan, you can't add it onto a single line
...
Yeah, I spoke with a local Vzn store a few times today. I'm going give my mother til Sunday the 28th that's it. I'm
*TRYING* to be patient, she can either pick the Droid, some other Vzn phone, take her ATT Samsung Sync with her to my sisters acct, which somehow I have a feeling she doesn't want to go to my sisters acct, I don't know why I think that, I just do.
...
Styx is oh right. I love 80s music!
Btw, when you get an email in gmail that has a link in it, on your Droid are links in emails easily clickable?
...
MennoMar 19, 2010, 11:35 PM
Yes. you just tap them and it loads the window
I have a 80's, 90's and a classical mix.. and I have one built on "Fuel"
...
Dare I ask, what the heck kinda music is "fuel"?
Is there talk radio on Pandora? Way back in 05 I was working security @ cement plant, and I'd listen tn talk radio, the symptom of a bored security guard.
So you can make multiple stations on Pandora?
...
MennoMar 20, 2010, 12:06 AM
Pandora doesn't have talk radio. You can get any Clear Radio Station with an app.. and once you get flash you should be able to get most of those streaming radio sites
...
Well with reguards to flash, perhaps Skyfire is working on a browser for Android.
...
Do you use the Zag Invisible Shield protector on your Droid's screen?
...
MennoMar 22, 2010, 12:35 PM
No. I don't have anything on my screen. It is gorilla glass so it is scratch resistant. YouTube Droid scratch test.
...
I already have, watched some amaZZZing YouTube vids of people *trying* to scratch the Droid's screen but couldn't.
Excuse me if this is a stupid quesion but what exactly is "Gorrilla glass"?
...
MennoMar 22, 2010, 12:55 PM
Well they give a lot of glass to some gorillas in a cage and the stuff they can't break is called Gorilla glass..
Actually, I have no idea why it's called that. Prolly the inventor thought gorillas were really strong or something.
Oh.. apparently it is environmentally friendly too.

Badda Bing! ! ! I ordered !!2!! Droid's!!!
Oh! Update! I juse got an email update! My crdit check just came back and Vzn approved me! Yipp! I heard that Vzn has high credit standards too! YiKes! Well, now all I'm waiting for is a shipping confirmation and the ALL IMPORTANT tracking #. Yay!!!!!!!!

MennoMar 22, 2010, 9:15 PM
Nice man 🙂
...
Well it's official! I've got 2 Droids on the way, being overnighted from
letstalk.com. $20 each, and only $15 for overnight shipping.
Tonight is my last night with my Nokia N95 and AT&T.
I'm still kinda shoCKed that my mother did decide on a Droid. I told her about the apps ShopSavvy & MyCoupon.

MennoMar 22, 2010, 10:03 PM
hehe... just DON'T tell her about being able to play farmville once flash 10.1 is launched.. you'll never see her put it down then
...
Farmville, huh? Flash isn't currently available, so what how is it you know about a game that utilizes flash 10.1 when it's not available yet?
...
MennoMar 22, 2010, 10:40 PM
there was (briefly) a leaked vid on youtube of someone playing it before it was pulled.
10.1 isn't available yet, but some leaked images exist
...
Actually I think I sent you a link showing an official demo from Adobe of 10.1 on a N1. The guy was watching the NCAA tournament on the N1.
...
MennoMar 22, 2010, 11:25 PM
I'm talking the unofficial ones... they intentionally don't show stuff like farmville (I believe) because they're not working with those developers so they didn't obtain permission. (same reason you don't see hulu)
But seriously.. you wouldn't believe how many times I was asked "what phone plays farmville?" when I worked in a store.
...
WoW! Well tomorrow I will download those 2 games you recommended, Replica Island and Raging Thunder 2 and see what they are like. I have a whole list of things to download that I've been building up.
...
MennoMar 23, 2010, 12:13 AM
They're just really good examples of what the platform is capable of.
I actually play the game "coloroid" more than anything on my phone.. it's about as simple as you can make a game (change the color of your block to match surrounding blocks) but it's addictive.
...
Oh right I'll check that one out.
I'm interested in finding ways to better spend my time than just browse the web on my ph, so I am really interested in finding some good games to play and pass the time when I'm @ work or on the bus.
...
I just checked UPS website, my pkg is on time and in transit! ! ! Scheduled for delivery 3/23! ! !
...
Way back in Oct/Nov 08 when Google/HTC/T-Mobile announced Android and the G1 I knew Android was very special, and that it had a LOT of potential, but I wanted to wait for the OS to mature more, and well with 2.0 (soon to be 2.1 on the Droid) I like where things are with Android and feel comfortable joining in.
The only 2 things that I think are stupid are that you have to have some app to be able to save pictures from an mms, and the not being able to store apps2sd (which I know is coming soon.)
...
Is Advance Task Killer free? What if I'm playing a game and I don't want to lose the point that I'm @, or I'm in the middle of an article on a web site that I'm not finished reading, I don't want a task killed if I'm not done using it.
...
MennoMar 17, 2010, 7:59 PM
yes it is free.
You can set the app to ignore other apps (they stay running even when you tell it to kill open apps)
...
Cool, very customizable!
...
Any idea how many apps you have loaded on your Droid?
What's the most you've ever heard of someone having on a Drohd?
...
MennoMar 18, 2010, 12:06 AM
at one time I had around 40 (when I worked in the store to demo to people) now I have about 25, and it's more than I need.
The most I've seen was about 120 or so... it tends to happen what a 14year old girl gets a droid... seriously she had every soundboard out there. (one of the things I DONT miss about selling cellphones is explaining to people that yes, it is possible for their kids to consume that much information.)
...
Stupid ? 4 you: What's a soundboard?
...
MennoMar 18, 2010, 8:21 AM
An app that has a bunch of soundclips from a move or TV show. So you can hit one and it will be Vader breathing, another will be Solo saying "don't tell me the odds" etc.
...
MennoMar 17, 2010, 12:28 PM
The update will pop up as soon as your phone is plugged into charge, or if the phone has greater than 60% battery life.
The device constantly checks for updates.
...
Every Eris we activate has less than 60% battery life and they always get the update within 2 minutes of programming. They come from the manufacturer with about 30% so it doesnt have to be over 60%.
So to answer your question, when you activate a 2.0.1 Moto Droid 5 days after the OTA update has been sent, within a couple of minutes your phone is gonna get it.
...
MennoMar 17, 2010, 12:50 PM
eris might be different then.. I didn't get the 2,01 update on my droid until it had a good charge on it.
...
Yep!!!! I saw a Droid on Amazon's website for ONLY $25, yeah that's right $25 🤤
? for you, I use my N95 to tether a lot, and the most data I've ever used is like 9gb's in one billing cycle, do you think Vzn would catch on to that? Or is Vzn's billing system like Atts, it isn't set up to catch data like that on smartphones, only 3G data cards.
Ooohh, yeah Droid for $25!!! 🤤
...
MennoMar 17, 2010, 12:53 PM
it depends on how it is used. Verizon's setup can catch weird usage, but it has a higher limit than most people realize.
Had a guy come in the other night.. he used 14gigs on his droid the last month and was fine.
Just remember not to use the Droid tether as your primary usage and you should be fin. Verizon WILL catch significant heavy usage, and I know PDAnet makes the data look like it is all browser related, I don't know what the wireless tethering app does (wireless tether still requires Root)
...
yeah, yeah, I'm aware of PDAnet, I have it on my list of things to download immediatly upon getting an Android handset.
* I thought you don't work for Vzn anymore, what is this "I had a guy come in the other day" stuff*
So question, some people have said that the keyboard on the Droid is cramped, flat, and hard to type on, do you concur with that? Or you do fine on it?
...
MennoMar 17, 2010, 1:18 PM
I am an independent consultant for a store near here. a part time job to hold me over why I seek something that actually pays the bills. basically I get to talk to people about smartphones, and I help the Owner work on positioning, branding and pricing. (very little sales) not a bad gig overall, but not full time. I still know a LOT of people in the industry, so i get calls from them all the time with questions as well.
the keyboard is the weakest part of the droid imo. it is still wholly functional, but compared to how much time Moto spent on the rest of the phone, I don't understand why the keyboard isn't amazing as well.
It is different than most QWERTY boards because it is flat. You can still type very fast, and I don't find i...

...
This may sound dumb but I noticed the
physical keyboard on the DROID works best when my fingernails are cut, if you have even a little bit of nail, it tends to make you have to poke your finger into the key a little bit.
But again it may just be me.
Its fine, and honestly the on screen landscape keyboard is just ducky, you will not need the physical keyboard to often.
