I wonder if this update, or the next will finally add the voice command ability over bluetooth.
I still love my DROID but it needs this feature.
Plus its state law in a lot of places now, so basically Verizon is making me a criminal everytime I try to call someone while driving.

ahahahah,.. DROID DOES !!!!

Two things: this is not a Verizon problem. From what I understand, its an Android problem, present on every Android phone.

And nobody makes you call someone when you're driving. That's a choice that you make.

Agree, but when you drive 4 hours a day.
You will need to place calls while driving.
Regardless of whos fault it is, they need to get it done already. The phone for 5 months already. and a feature is missing that has been in phones even non smart phones since 2003.

Plus if you look at a Motorola DEVOUR it has
full voice command over bluetooth, its even running the "Nuance" or "VoiceSignal" software.
I forget which one it is, but its got the full features. I dont get how the cheaper phone meant for the masses has this feature, and the flagship iphone killer does not.
So Android developers, Verizon, Motorola, SOMEONE
please get this working....

Thank you

Motorola, if the devour has it (haven't confirmed that) added that technology into the device, it is not part of Android (like HTC wrote in multi-touch into 1.5 even though it wasn't officially supported until 2.0)

Motorola made the DROID,
Motorola made the DEVOUR
The DEVOUR has this ability.
lets get an ability that's existed since 2003
into this phone already.

I not arguing with anyone else's points here.
Just saying, GIT'R'DONE already.

What is taking them so long.
The phone does everything else but for some reason someone is dragging their heels getting this done already.

If this didnt exist in the DEVOUR I wouldnt be so annoyed that it hasnt been done yet on the DROID.

Thanks

Motorola Droid=Google Experience Device Meaning it's running stock android (very little tweaking)

Motorola Devour=a MotoBLUR device with heavy customization. (look at what motorola is doing to motoblur in china.. replacing google with Bing)

Stock android, for whatever reason, does not support Bluetooth handsfree dialing.

Where did you see that the Devour supports it? I haven't read that (then again I didn't look at the devour that long)

Regardless of the "experience"
Both the phones come from Motorola
and both are running a form of Android.
So my big gripe here is
if HTC had voice command over BT and the
Motorola phones didnt I could see that.
But Motorola put out both of these phones.
And now remember this, the DEVOUR is meant to be a lower cost phone, and they put this in there.
WHereas on the DROID, the "flagship" phone
they didnt put it in there and have not yet put it in there.

I will try to find where I saw this but its mentioned in the video reviews , and in the forums..and even some DEVOUR owners in forums jested about this fact as well.

I saw the mention.

It's not the experience. The Droid is STOCK android, no frills. Android does not support hands free.

The Devour, because it's not stock, has the extra NON-ANDROID coding to allow the bluetooth.

It is the same reason the N1 doesn't support Bluetooth dialing. the only way (currently) to get it on an android device is to have a non-stock device.

The Droid was intentionally as untouched as possible (the first android phone for Verizon, a company with the reputation of forcing their things on a device, even if they don't anymore on smartphones)

That's why it's not included. Manufacturers have nothing to do with it. If moto put their bluetooth programming into the device, it would no longer be a stock device....

Ah, so is that why punk @$$ Apple is suing HTC and not Google? Cause it was HTC that wrote multitouch into Android?
...
Menno

Mar 17, 2010, 11:31 PM
Apple isn't suing over Multitouch. They are saying they are the only ones who can make ANY all touchscreen device (multi-touch or not)

They're suing HTC because:

1) It is a foreign company. most other countries don't recognize the BS patents that apple is trolling with (aka, they require implementation, not just concept)

2) Even if they were a US company, HTC is largely a hardware, not a software company, so most of their patents relate to hardware (they do have patents are several key aspects of senseUI, something apple is choosing to ignore)

3) Their devices are among the most popular and the most "intuitive" so apple sees them as the prime competition compared to something like the Droid which Steve writes off because it i...

Ah...your still up.
Yeah, I read that article.
It'll be very interesting to see how the creater of XML will influence the advancement of Android.

So considering the Droid only has a 550mhz proccessor is the Droid a pretty snappy device?

I have 1 more hr left in my shift.
...
Menno

Mar 18, 2010, 12:03 AM
Yes, very snappy. The Droid has an 800mhz processor (same as Iphone) but like the iphone, it's underclocked. This is why 800mhz roms run so well on the device.

The only REAL speedup I noticed by overclocking was menu transitions and scrolling between homepages. When it comes to actual functionality (nav, gaming, web, etc) you don't really notice the difference unless you're really looking for it.

So are you confident that I will be able to port a Ct # over even though I have a Nv billing address?
I won't know until after my sister excepts my request to transfer my mothers line.

I watched some YouTube vids of the Droid last night, theres no earpiece in the box, not cool!

I came across an app to make photos privat called PhotoVault, and one that tells you if cops are near by called Trapster so I know if it's safe to "Jaywalk" w/o being harrassed, and theres also an app called Screen Mode Widget that puts a clock on your screen that's kinda like the one on SenseUI, the 80's style clock where the numbers sort of fall down.

I got a set of headphones with my Tour.. I never used them.

It's a 3.5mm jack, so normal headphones are best (I used a pair I picked up at a best buy)

When you sign up through Amazon, make sure you have your ATT account number handy to try and port your number over. remember NOT to cancel with att until you try porting your number. once you cancel your line your number is lost.

Mar 18, 2010, 3:44 PM
Ah, my ATT acct # is necessary thanks for the heads up. The other acct isn't even in my sisters name, it's in my brother-in-laws name, she said it won't be done over the internet (probably paranoid about ssn on the net, ppl don't understand what a secured website is!) so she said the earliest is Sunday that they'll go to a store.

I know you told me not to cancel my #, cause then I won't be able to port it, but let's say I cancel my mothers, that won't effect me porting my # right?

Btw, question for you about eventually updating the Droid to 2.1

Are my contacts, apps, and well all stored data be effected @ all with the updating of the OS?

I'm having patience issues! Wanting to be an Androider
!!NOW!!

as long as it an official OTA update, you'll lose nothing (besides widget placement on your homescreen)

If you roote your phone and do an unofficial update you'll lose your apps and contacts.. the contacts will download as soon as you resync your email, and your apps will be available in the marketplace (all purchased apps show up in your download page)

All information on your SD card is saved.

If you haven't, make sure to set up a Gmail account. it uses that account to store your contacts/calander/app downloads and you need an account to use android

Yep, I have a Gmail address. Did it almost 2wks ago. I have PS attached to it.

Speaking of Gmail, do links show up in emails on Gmail on Android? Easily clickable and so on?

Thanks for answering my ?'s. Hope I'm not annoying.

Wow $40-$50! Isn't that more than what a car battery cost?

Btw, oh right already, I put Idiocricy on my Netflix list, I moved it up to #10. You didn't tell me IT&T's pitchman Luke Wilson is it though. But it's a Mike Judge (from Beavis & Butthead) movie, so I'm sure it'll be good.

Yep. N1 has a faster processor.. assuming you don't OC your Droid.. that's about it, The droid is a VERY well built phone.. N1 is cool, but not worth upgrading to if you already have a Droid. if I had an Eris, I would deff be tempted.. not with moto

On a side note... I think it's HILARIOUS that Blue didn't comment on this post, or on the one about Gesture search being made available to more platforms.

I think he hates being wrong, again.
