I just want to know how I get free broadband out of this? I can say I'm poor or rural, works for me.

And that illustrates the problem. Like all government programs, people are already trying to figure out how they can qualify, even if they really shouldn't.
I'm really looking forward to paying for everyone's free internet. I'm looking forward to watching the companies that currently provide wireless broadband suffer because the government decides to step in and take over a private enterprise.

The information super highway will become like a real highway...paid for by taxypayers. Otherwise they won't connect all of the USA. If they don't revamp it then americans will fall farther and farther behind and that's just a reality. Other countries have national agendas concerning internet access and maybe the existing players will just have to deal with more government oversight.

Other countries do many things that we don't do here. They aren't limited by the same things that our federal goverment is limited by. Please explain to me where the federal government is granted the Constitutional power to tax me to provide someone else with internet, or any other communications means.
Simply put, you cannot do it. Such a power is not granted to the federal government. There is a reason for that. We live in a free market system. If there is enough demand for a product it will be offered. If you cannot afford a product, you cannot have it. That system has been proven to work over more than two centuries. From what I have heard it will in some way be tied to the dropping of "over the air" TV stations. I guess they will be making all TV stations broadcast only on cable. Plus there seems to be some talk of a "fairness" search with search sites like Google. You search for something like abortion for example and there must be an equal number of pro and con responses. Heard that from several sources. Welcome take over of another industry.
