If it's a patent suit filed in Texas it's just a patent troll case. Nothing new, sadly.

There are a lot of myths around the Eastern District of Texas. It is no more likely to rule for the patent owner than other districts. I think they myths are perpetuated to get people to settle.

I did some digging. Smartphone is apparently a front for PalmSource (now a sub of ACCESS, a Japanese company), the OS company that Palm recently spun out. This has become a common technique for plaintiffs who want to stay in the EDTex: form a corporation in the EDTex (in this case in Frisco) and transfer the patents to the front.
