You're both right but CDMA is the proper term. 1xRTT is more of a bandwidth term than the actual tech name. As for calling it 2G or 3G, no matter what it really is it should just be called 2G if anything. EVDO is the 3G standard for CDMA networks. LTE will be the 4G standard. 2G or 3G, it's still CDMA.

CDMA - Code Division Multiple Access
*1. A technique of multiplexing, also called spread spectrum, in which analog signals are converted into digital form for transmission. For each communication channel, the signals are encoded in a sequence known to the transmitter and the receiver for that channel.
2. A digital communication technology used by some carriers to provide PCS service.

1xRTT - 1x Round-Trip Time:
*The time it takes to send a packet to a remote host and receive a response; used to measure delay on a network at a given time.

Now for my 2 cents. When Verizon has finally tested and built out their 4G LTE network, what will AT&T say about "multi-tasking" then? They won't have anything to brag about anymore. Verizon will have simultaneous voice/data and the fastest network. What then, AT&T?
