WoW, 10 more years of CDMA. So in the year 2020/2021 Vzn will still be using a tech that isn't the world standard.

Your just brainwashed by all those 'network' advertisements.

True indeed. In fact, CDMA is more effecient. And unless you are some sort of globe trotter...what's the difference. You could always just get a world device that works on CDMA here and globally if you do travel.

CDMA is superior technology over GSM. GSM is the "world standard"? No, it was Europes standard. They decided long ago that all countries in Europe would use GMS and make it seamless. Doesnt make GSM the right choice or the better technology. It isnt.

and are u brainwashed by the gsm networks? because as far as i know, it takes 3 gsm towers to get the same coverage as 1 cdma tower. thats why att had really horrible service when they went from tdma to gsm. they just put gsm on their towers, and didnt add new ones.

I don't want to go to LTE and tiered pricing so I am staying with CDMA for all of those ten years. I could care less about the AT&T/VZW battle. It just so happens that VZW is my carrier and I have a few back up phones in the drawer so I am good.

I don't every roll with Big Red! It's just a fact the CDMA is faster and more efficient. And i would hope that in a large city like Vagas that every carrier would have good service.

ATT brainwashes their customers into thinking everything is great by having luke wilson throw postcards at a map. Verizon actually shows you where the 3G is in comparison between the two companies. Glad you're 3G works fine in Vegas, but I thought these were MOBILE phones. Where do you vacation?

2G CDMA is still the most efficient way to handle voice traffic. There is absolutely no incentive technologically or financially to shut down the 2G network.

Why WOULD a company rip out a technology that is working just fine and replace it with something else that does the same thing? Where the GSM operators are in a position to let 3G completely consume the legacy 2G network (theoretically), CDMA carriers have to look at the 4G network to expand and push the 2G network into obsolescence.

Frankly, 10 years is pretty damn fast to make a major migration like that. AT&T began their 3G rollout 5 years ago in 2005 and is nowhere CLOSE to refitting all 2G towers with 3G antennae nationwide.

The 700 MHz bandwidth quality and propagati...

Please, don't call it 2G CDMA. CDMA2000, by definition of a generation (i.e. Not the bastardized modification used by the telecom industry today), is 3G. Just say CDMA.

Or better, call it 1xRTT, which it is.

You're both right but CDMA is the proper term. 1xRTT is more of a bandwidth term than the actual tech name. As for calling it 2G or 3G, no matter what it really is it should just be called 2G if anything. EVDO is the 3G standard for CDMA networks. LTE will be the 4G standard. 2G or 3G, it's still CDMA.

CDMA - Code Division Multiple Access
*1. A technique of multiplexing, also called spread spectrum, in which analog signals are converted into digital form for transmission. For each communication channel, the signals are encoded in a sequence known to the transmitter and the receiver for that channel.
2. A digital communication technology used by some carriers to provide PCS service.

1xRTT - 1x Round-Trip Time:
*The time it take...

There's also EVDO+ which makes it possible to do both at the same time with regular ol' CDMA.

AT&T will do what they have done since Stan Sigman declared his unabashed admiration for Verizon's business model in a Business Week interview, (I believe). They will align their rate plans as closely to Verizon's as possible and say "Yeah, but WE have Rollover!" and (perhaps) the iphone? Once these two behemoths are on the same technology there will REALLY be little or no difference between the two. Please Sprint, T-Mobile and Metro PCS survive!

Correct me if I am wrong, I believe GSM is slightly older than CDMA. So according to your argument, everyone on GSM should migrate to the more recent tech of CDMA, and ATT should turn off all 2G-GSM towers and only leave on the 3G towers while 4G (LTE) is being built out. Man that Map Thing will really hurt then with no 2G-GSM/EDGE coverage to fill in those large gaps.

Lastly, Please tell me that you have either discarded all of your DVD from the last 10+ yrs since they are so passa' and old when compared to new and improved Blue Ray Discs since all new releases come in BR ...

I personally think its just good since to send out the message of, "we'll still be supporting this for 10 more years." As much as there are customers itching for the cutting edge of the latest and greatest there are thouse who drag their feet to adopt the new. They will say things like,"this here works just fine why are you forcing me to get something else when what I have does what I want?" I know they will say this because I worked on the AMPS retirement team when the old 1G analog system got shut off an I had to reach out to customers to try and just get them a 2G phone in 2008 when most were getting into their 3G equipment. I will tell ya in 2020 when the old 3g system is shut off and people are getting their subdural 5g implants put in,...
