Hard to believe this is the same company that brought us the RAZR, KRZR, SLVR, Q, and V Series phones. They may have had crap software but they at least had hardware that was a notch above everyone else in terms of design...

not anymore, apparently.

Well what about the Droid? Are you saying that was crap hardware?

Idk if the droid is great hard ware it looks like it and got high rating but this is the same company that's screens would white out after a year.

Yikes, that's scary.

Well, I intend for my first Android smartphone to be an HTC device anyway, so I am so, so, so much looking forward to Mobile World Congress in 11 days and counting to see what HTC ends up making for ATT.

HTC is one of the worst manufacturers I've ever had an experience with. Their quality control is garbage- utter garbage. Bad components, device overheating (under heavy usage my old Apache liked to lose connection to USB devices such as the cellular radio) , bad keyboard drivers. Mics that crapped out after a month of ownership, and my *favorite* was the screen input going bad.

HTC has come along way since the Apache, or ppc6700, in fact the TP2 probably has one of the greatest keyboards out. not to mention that they are offering both winmo and android devices. Of course winmo people have choice of booting droid off of their sd card now. If the last device you used was the apache I seriously think you should take another look at HTC.

So you have a good opinion of HTC?

I've never owned an HTC device before. At least they are getting their act together and finally starting to include 3.5mm headphone jacks on more, and more of their devices.

I guess I can always call Wireless Toyz, cause they repair phones, and I can ask them how many repair issues they have had in the past 2yrs with HTC. So certainly seem to be the sort of company that tries to learn from their mistakes and become better, rather than just keep on, and keep on making crap.

And yes, the TP2 most definetly has the !BEST! keyboard out there. I am so, so much hoping HTC makes an Android smartphone that is identical to the TP2 but with the addition of a 3.5mm jack and of course snapdragon processor.

HTC apache: https://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p =808

From 2005, aka 5 years ago.

From this site: 3.42 rating
Original iphone: 3.72 rating

It was also known more as a UT Starcomm, not an HTC device.

Not saying you didn't have a bad device.. but seriously.. a 5 year old phone?

I think the Droid looks pretty ugly to be honest. It's got that awkward lip on the bottom, it's pretty cheaply assembled (plasticK), and it's ergonomically not really all there. Other than being thin and black, its not a particularly clean design.

I agree with you about that disruptive lip thing at the bottom. I wonder if that gets in the way when typing.

I can't wait to see what Android device HTC cooks up for ATT. I hope to know more about MY next smartphone!!! Yeah, yeah!!!!

Honestly, why not get a Pre, or wait for iPhone 4.0?

Bothe the Pre & Iphone do things I don't like, like internal memory for both, and NON removable battery for the Iphone. Plus, I want a smartphone with a real/physical keyboard. Not some stupid software/virtual keyboard.

Touchscreen is nice, just not ALL touchscreen.

Really? Actually the mot droid's housing is metal, which explains the weight. Its a solid slider. not cheaply made at all.. The device is basically all sharp lines. How much "cleaner" would u want it?

It's clear u barely held or even own this device so please stop lambasting it with false information. I notice you do that a lot on here. You're the reason I have to tell idiots simple stuff like EVDO is 3G. It's nothing new. Smh.

I had it for a week. Most of your questions could be solved by actually looking at the device.

First off, let's look at the front. See that ugly chin on the front? Check.

Let's look at the side, in profile. See that ugly ring-bump that runs around it composed of crap-E-plastic? YEAH, you see it? Ugly. Not clean either. See how it kind of turns into a tumor at the top for the headphone jack? That definitely isn't clean.

"Sharp Lines" - you mean like edge of the screen? That half-hearted attempt at a rounded corner (apparently rumor is VZW demanded it at the last minute as the phone looked 'too angular.')

Let's look at those buttons! Oh, there's a gold one! There's a black one!

Let's go around to the back- see the 5 friggin cu...

Quite honestly, on the iPhone the virtual keyboard is superior to pretty much all physical keyboards. They key is flexibility you can alternate between landscape and portrait for instances when you need to type with one hand vs. two (and because all iPhones have this same input method it remains consistent.) In landscape the iPhone keyboard is the fastest keyboard on a mobile device I've used. I've had the Pre for two months now and it takes about 25% longer because the autocorrect isn't as smart, and by comparison the keyboard is cramped. Same goes with the Droid's keyboard- landscape keyboards are only convenient with two hands free (aka typing a long thing), and the Droid's is way too numb to ever want to type for awhile on it.

What i...

Well heres the deal, I am a way, way bored security guard for a job, and I like to browse the web a whole lot on my phone, and so that is why a removable battery is important to me, I just like the ability to swap out, or to charger a spare on a desktop charger.

Honestly try one of the Juicepack or Kensington power clip-ons - they're not all that cumbersome and work great. On the rare instances where the iPhone's battery isn't sufficient they work great and are no more cumbersome than toting a spare and separate charger.

It's all straight lines and hard angles, a phone doesn't have to be curved everything to be a "clean" design. The Body is made out of metal (at least a good portion of it) and it uses Gorilla Glass. I agree the looks aren't for everyone.. but to call this phone cheeply made.. my ipod touch is a lot more fragile (and scratch prone) than this.

It's not all straight lines and hard angles actually, i'd say it's about 90% hard lines- I wish they were bold enough to go all the way but oh well.

But look at the back- 5 friggin cut lines. There's that ungainly protrusion around the sides and the top, the buttons vary from black plastic to gold, and despite it being all hard-edged there's that odd filleting when viewed from the side Mind you, Motorola's design prowess was on their ability to carefully hide cut lines- the RAZR was a perfect example.

If I had to vote for well executed 'clean hard angles' I'd say look at the HTC Touch Diamond (though it's hardly my favorite looking phone)
