Landline will become the big push again and then it will still suck. NYC and SF are only 2 areas in the US. Good luck at&t with the rest of everything and getting stomped by everyone's else 4G network.

🤨

It's all about perception. They are never going to have the reputation that Verizon has, but at least now they appear to be doing something.

You do realize that there's capabilities as companies to do this magical thing called 'multi-tasking'. Just because they're concentrating on improving coverage somewhere doesnt mean all other things are abandoned...

For most of ATT 2mbps is still nothing but a dream.

Verizon is at least 1yr ahead of ATT w/4G, and Sprint/Clearwire is at least 2yrs ahead of ATT w/4G.

ATT's CEO & CTO are full of procrastination, and lack vision.

I get about 2.1MBPS *average* on AT&T's network. That's double the average speed of my Palm Pre, and actually it's on par with the speeds obtained on Chicago's CLEAR network.

Second, it doesn't matter what network you're broadcasting under- it all comes down to backhaul, and AT&T will have more backhaul capacity than any other network at this point.

That's amazing that you get
2.1mbps on ATT in Chicago. I get a measly
900kbps-1.1mbps here in Las Vegas.

But if all your getting is a measly 2mbps with Clear then you should call customer service, they consider that to be under performing.
I've gotten speeds of
8/12mbps before with Clear.

Thats not bad! Im currently getting around 6-7mbps in Philly on T-Mobile's HSPA+ netowrk. 😎 This really shows how everything in the US is demanding the need for increased spectrum.

WoW 6-7mbps on Tmo's network! That's exciting! More proof that ATT is lagging, lagging behind! I'm lucky to get more than 1.2mbps or so on my ATT 3G service.

Do you know WHEN Tmo is going to be more aggressive with this HSPA+ deployment? Like more cities and markets?

So far the official word is: "they are going to be rolling it out to 30 major markets by mid 2010 and to all of the 3G footprint by end of 2010".
Here is a little article that I found on PCmagazine.com and what they had to say about T-Mobile's HSPA+ network.

HSPA+, the technology that T-Mobile will use to increase network performance in 2010. A tech blogger and PC World recently test drove HSPA+ and liked what they saw. Clearwire’s rep did not.

“PCMag sent our managing editor for mobile, Sascha Segan, down to Philly to do some bandwidth testing. He found that HSPA+ could go toe-to-toe with a 4G network.”

“I found it to be much faster than Verizon's and Sprint's 3G networks, and even sometimes faster than W...

Hey, thanks a lot! Damn good thing both myself and my mother's lines are month-to-month!!!
I hope the Las Vegas market INCLUDING Henderson & Boulder City will be upgraded to HSPA+ soon. Maybe if Tmo gets an Android smartphone that is comparable to the Nexus One + slideout keyboard I will join Tmo!!!

Especially considering there isn't an extra charge for tethering!!!!

Thanks for the info!
Let the speed wars begin!!!

So far, there is no charge for tethering. I use my CLIQ for tethering all the time. I have been doing it for about 10 months now. I even cancelled my home internet. No charge. I get better speeds when I tether to my laptop because it has a bigger processor.

Very nice, very nice!!! And you live in Philly? How's that HSPA+ working for you? Do you watch a lot of Hulu? Porn? Do video clips load nice and smooth?

Man, Tmo needs to give Las Vegas some of this HSP+ love.

So is tethering with Android easy? Or is it something kinda complicated you have to call tech support about?

I use my Nokia N95 as a wifi hotspot, and my phone gets hot, sometimes too hot to touch!

Does your Cliq get hot?

Also, I HAVE to keep it plugged in while tethering, otherwise my phone will die way, way fast.

Is your Cliq the same way? Do you have to keep in plugged in while using it as a modem?

What 4g network, the one that has a few blocks in Baltimore and Philadelphia??? I bet within weeks of lte deployment VZW will have greater coverage then Clear/Sprint on Wimax, and the same with AT&T soon there after.

Clear has at least 30 markets. Las Vegas, Chicago, lots of places in Tx, Oregon, and they plan to have a 100m of the population covered by the end of this yr.

Clear har a whole lot more markets than you think.

That this is the same clear that put out this new 4G technology to "leap" ahead of the competition and keep themselves from going out of business BUT forgot to make sure they had some handsets to be able to use this new service with OTHER than a data card 😲 ...i mean seriously you can blow all the smoke you want about how much you love clear and think att sucks but the fact of the matter is that like previously stated someone was enjoying 6-7 mbps from t-mobile because tmobile was smart...
