I know I am going to get bashed for this...but why wouldn't you just buy a netbook for half the price?

Yes it does some cool things and they will sell them....but I honestly believe if you buy one it is only because it is an apple and you want to look cool.

I think they would have been better off making it smaller, less powerful, and went after kindle. This just seems like a computer and cost more then many decent computers out there... hell they could have just used the ipod touch and supersized it and sold the thing for around $300 and I think it would have worked better.

sorry I just don't get it...and yes I watched the videos.

Well, this probably won't replace the people who use Netbooks as anemic laptops (who I think is a lot of people) , but what if you buy a netbook for its stated purpose (aka mostly surfing the web, listening to music, maybe light office editing, etc) the iPad does a much better job at all of them.

If I'm to buy a $350.00 Netbook and then pay $80.00 just so I'm not hobbled by Windows Starter than another $50.00 for AV software I'm within $20.00 of an iPad.

I mean let's be honest here, a netbook is indeed cheap (and all in all can be made into a decent machine nowadays) , but they're pretty miserable computing devices if you think about them. Hell, name ONE with a decent trackpad...

The Macbook Air is even better than this craptastic glorified iPod Touch.

Most people are smart enough to distinguish between a $1,600.00 ultraportable laptop and a $500.00 internet tablet.

Hopefully most students will be smart enough to realize that this is absolutely useless for college

I carry my Macbook Pro around with me everywhere, but it'd be great for college with iWork as a secondary machine (I'd never get it to replace my computer)

Unlike a laptop I can use it comfortably on the bus to campus, it weighs 1/4th of what my laptop weighs, and with iWork you can create an entire presentation and take notes. If Omnigroup ever releases Omnioutliner for it it'd be better than any PC Laptop there is.

And since it's a $500.00 tablet and not a $2500.00 laptop I won't be so hesitant about chucking it in my bag.

no it wouldn't. Because if you are typing a paper and need to look something up, you need to shut down your paper, open the browser, look up the item, then shut down the browser, open back up the paper and start typing again. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the concept here of iwork on the device.

But I can't tell you a single student at the school I went to that would be typing something without having some other window they were toggling through. If they want to market this as an textbook/study/note tool, they NEED to impliment non-jailbroken multi tasking.

Seriously, if this thing had multitasking, and I had the spare cash, this+iwork would be almost a buy for me (and for as annoying as flash is, I DO like Hulu) It's just... I don't...

I'm in total agreement multitasking needs to be implemented, but if you've seen how the iPhone / iPad OSes operate, your session in each application is cached instantly, so it's a non-issue- it's similar to 'minimizing' a window.

Multitasking is more helpful for leisure purposes- I would like to run Beejive IM while surfing the internet and not have to switch between applications. But keep in mind this is along the lines of things like MMS and Copy & Paste which were well worth the wait.

I concur....this guy (whom you quoted bluecoyote) seems to be sweet on the MacAir! 🙂 He's posting in most every thread that people should just get the fabulous MacAir. He is kinda funny though. 🙂

Now you've gotta pay $80.00 to change the wallpaper. MS Office is another $150.00, but I wouldn't pay it because it doesn't run so great. Did you renew the Trend Micro subscription for another $50.00 ?

How's that terrible touch pad working out for you? You know, the one with the numb buttons and wonky touch sensitivity that can barely track your finger's movement but registers everything as a tap click? Did you disable the useless multi-touch gestures that work in about 50% of the applications? Nothing a $30.00 mouse to lug around can't solve!

How's "EEE Pleasant or EEE Splendid or EEE Live" working out for you- enjoying all of the Chinese gibberish it installed randomly on your system without permission?

Did you use the integra...
