Apple isn't abandoning AT&T afterall?

It seems like the negative press from AT&T hasn't hurt Apple's relationship with the company. Although they could still announce and iPhone for Verizon, I think it's cool Apple is still giving love to AT&T.

I think it's also awesome that there's no contract and the iPad is priced so low.

I liked the name iSlate a lot more...

I think that is why we started to hear so much talk about "slates" last year.

Somebody probably jumped the gun and tied up the Slate concept.....and Apple is worried about getting sued...

Apple acknowledged AT&T's network issues back during their conference call and said they reviewed AT&T's plan to address the issues.

Like it or not, AT&T's the only game in town willing to play ball with outside-of-the-box pricing models. T-Mobile does to some extent, but their network coverage is dismal (and if you think AT&T has issues....) .

AT&T is the largest GSM carrier in the states. It makes sense that they would want to keep working with them so they only have to produce one device. The iPad is an unlocked device though and according to the stats page on apple it has all the required bands to run just fine on T-mobile if that is what you want to do. How T-mobile will handle you accessing their network is something completely different though.

I was in a battle with AT&T to allow me to demo the microcell in SC because the coverage vanashied the min i entered my house. I didn't have a whole lot of problems with AT&T outside my house other than a few dropped calls. So I unlocked my iPhone and ported to T-Mobile...heh. I was in for a shock. My phone works in my house, but coverage everywhere else is really horrible. Dropped calls non-stop. I've had a sim swapped and didn't help. It looks like I'm going back to AT&T, just sucks that I'm gonna pay another $20 a month...i guess thats the cost for coverage, and hopefully AT&T will get these microcells out. I will say that I was hoping for a verizon iphone.

I agree.

Big Red was too arrogant and wanted too much control at the time Apple offered the iphone to them. AT&T may have it's problems but at least they dont have like their $hit dont stink like Verizon does.

Plus, who in the hell is to say the iPhone wouldn't have suffered the same woes on Verizon's network. Please. 🙄 The coverage would have been better sure but the network issues would still exist

That's what I've been saying all along. Verizon has a larger 3G map, true. But the problem isn't the big map, but rather the concentration of people in one dense area.

Still, I wonder why everyone was so convinced the iPhone was going to Verizon this year. I mean, folks were pretty much sure it was happening. I've never heard so many rumors from so many sources...but then nothing at all...

Well, the year isn't over exactly, but they are saying exclusivity is over in may/june.

We'll see, who knows.

Good for them. I just left them due to their troubled network and I don't want those data hog phones coming to my network.

It will be interesting to see if and when the new iPad will add more troubles to AT&T's overloaded network.

Very true. Unlimited data for $30...no contract. Imagine the data problems AT&T has now. Wow.

I am glad I left them when I did. When I had them, I had problems with call quality even though I did not have an iPhone. Data hogs affect everyone on the network.

The data problem only exists in a mass scale in NYC, San Fran, and only a few other cities. Most cities aren't as densely populated. AT&T will be fine.

Plus, I don't think everyone in the world is going out for that tablet. It's kind of a niche device. An awesome device, but not for everyone.

AT&T's network isn't overloaded, just in a few markets they don't have the backhaul capacity to handle the traffic due to concentration and other regulations. In most parts of the country where they have 3G coverage (which has doubled in the past month FYI) their network is blazing.

Well I hope they keep going in that direction. Meanwhile, in my area I get better coverage for less money per month so I am not coming back to AT&T. I wish them luck.
