Apple Announces iPad
netbook
Yes it does some cool things and they will sell them....but I honestly believe if you buy one it is only because it is an apple and you want to look cool.
I think they would have been better off making it smaller, less powerful, and went after kindle. This just seems like a computer and cost more then many decent computers out there... hell they could have just used the ipod touch and supersized it and sold the thing for around $300 and I think it would have worked better.
sorry I just don't get it...and yes I watched the videos.
If I'm to buy a $350.00 Netbook and then pay $80.00 just so I'm not hobbled by Windows Starter than another $50.00 for AV software I'm within $20.00 of an iPad.
I mean let's be honest here, a netbook is indeed cheap (and all in all can be made into a decent machine nowadays) , but they're pretty miserable computing devices if you think about them. Hell, name ONE with a decent trackpad...
Unlike a laptop I can use it comfortably on the bus to campus, it weighs 1/4th of what my laptop weighs, and with iWork you can create an entire presentation and take notes. If Omnigroup ever releases Omnioutliner for it it'd be better than any PC Laptop there is.
And since it's a $500.00 tablet and not a $2500.00 laptop I won't be so hesitant about chucking it in my bag.
But I can't tell you a single student at the school I went to that would be typing something without having some other window they were toggling through. If they want to market this as an textbook/study/note tool, they NEED to impliment non-jailbroken multi tasking.
Seriously, if this thing had multitasking, and I had the spare cash, this+iwork would be almost a buy for me (and for as annoying as flash is, I DO like Hulu) It's just... I don't...

Multitasking is more helpful for leisure purposes- I would like to run Beejive IM while surfing the internet and not have to switch between applications. But keep in mind this is along the lines of things like MMS and Copy & Paste which were well worth the wait.
How's that terrible touch pad working out for you? You know, the one with the numb buttons and wonky touch sensitivity that can barely track your finger's movement but registers everything as a tap click? Did you disable the useless multi-touch gestures that work in about 50% of the applications? Nothing a $30.00 mouse to lug around can't solve!
How's "EEE Pleasant or EEE Splendid or EEE Live" working out for you- enjoying all of the Chinese gibberish it installed randomly on your system without permission?
Did you use the integra...
