-Do you deserve a new HDTV because you had the same sattelite/cable company for a long time?
-Do you deserve a new water heater because you pay your electric bill with the same company for years?
-Do you deserve free bread for shopping at Walmart for 5 years?

I agree with you 100%. Great Analogies.
One Question Though:
If you get the Nexus for $180 aren't you signing a contract with T-Mo??? Not that I'm defending them because to charge $200 w/o providing the subsidy is ridiculous.

Google is getting money from T-Mobile the same way Apple gets money from AT&T for their plans. That's why there is a subsidy on the Nexus. If Google didn't charge recovery fee then T-mobile would charge a ETF. At least that's how it should be.

If Google is charging a recovery fee and T-mobile is still charging a $35 activation fee, then T-mobile shouldn't have the right to a ETF because they don't get charged for losing the phone, the $200 ETF would be mostly profit (or pay off their existing deficit)since all they did was activate the phone.
Where exactly is the big lost for T-mobile if the customer cancelled a phone they didn't sell and barely activate it?
