Ruin it for everyone else why don't you. There isn't a carrier more robbed with someone breaking contract like AT&T and the iPhone is but they don't have *special ETF's*.

let's see... the headline of the article outlines AT&T, google, sprint and T-moblie as well....

You're barking up the wrong tree.... Google is just as guilty (if not more so)

If it wasn't for innovation the industry wouldn't be where it is today... not to mention that ETF's effect less than 5% of the people that buy

which they have since lowered on a few devices... Verizon has been innovative... most of the innovations stay, some don't. Every carrier benefits from innovation by way of knowledge

God man why can't Verizon reps just acknowledge it when Verizon messes up? If a news report came out saying evidence was found that shows Verizon supports terrorism all of you fan boys would put a spin on it.

why can't you admit that it isn't as big a deal as it sounds?

Its a contract... Honor it

The devices get more expensive and subsidized more... its business, you have the option not to sign up. No one holds a gun to your head.

You're the type of guy that wants something for nothing... have fun with that through life

No I'm totally more of a corporate guy. I agree with ETF's whole heartedly. Verizon is the reason this is going deeper than it should though.

Wrong. People who get discounted phones and cancel contracts that they agreed to (some of whom do it solely to turn a profit) is what brought this on.

I could answer your question, but you will stick your head in the sand and go la la la la la I can't hear you.

For those that want to hear the answer, continue reading. Ignorance is no excuse.

If you ever sold on ebay you would have seen these "phone flippers" in action. Earlier this year they were really in full force. Offering phones no contract for less than wholesale, all that were "activated just to test". "I used it for one day and hated it and switched carriers". "It is new*". "Unlocked phone new". etc. etc. Later last year, the new ETF came into effect, this stopped. It is not a Verizon problem either. Phones from other carriers are jacked the same way.

Some indirect agents have their own contracts that make Verizon Wireless' $350 ETF's look like nothing. Frankly, it's getting attention because it's a large company. Whether or not Verizon Wireless will say it, they increased ETF's to stop people from abusing the subsidized pricing. Stop living in denial. Have you never worked in any form of retail environment?

Consumers only see the word contract, they don't realize what goes along with that contract. Wanna port out from AT&T to Verizon after only 3 months of service with AT&T? Get ready to shell out another $300 on another phone.

Eh, I think it will be more than that, look at retail prices, in our store the Droid retail is 629.99 we purchase it for 599.99, now think about that for a minute, that means on a profit we make thirty dollars, and then usually activate it for free, and answer questions so by the time you take operating costs of the employee utilities etc we make next to nothing. So if you compare that to how much we make on a contract IF IT IS FULLFILLED....we make 200 more depending on the plan. So to equal out the profit we would have to charge 829.99 to make the same amount we would from a normal contract, how many people do you know that will want to pay that much for a phone, remember thats a phone price difference of 199.99 for contract VS 829.99 an...

I do want to end ETFs because most consumers want to have their cake and eat it too. They want to sign contracts and not have them enforced. We would not be having this discussion if people honored their word. These people signed contracts where the ETF was explained to them and THEN went and complained that it was unfair to the FCC. These politicians instead of telling them to go about their business are actually wasting resources on this garbage. So yes. I want the subsidies to end because they are not logical and all they do is produce spoiled consumers.

Hopefully it will end with all the carriers saying "fine, you don't want ETF's, you must not want subsidies anymore. We will all be charging full retail for all devices from this point on."

Then everyone would be crying about how much their phones cost now that they ruined it for themselves.

They are idiots and don't understand the concept of subsidies.

That's because tmobile is not subsidizing the handset at all. Google is. Just like any other third party retailer, they can charge their ETF in addition to the one charged by the carrier because if you cancel before a certain number of months, the agent doesn't get paid.

Basically Tmobile is charging the ETF even though they are not subsidizing the handset. (which is fine) but it shouldn't be as high as if they were subsidizing the handset.
