The problem is there are many more 3G phones than there are 1X only phones. There aren't many basic phones anymore. So the only way to avoid the forced data plan on a phone is to either get the new basic phones, or go to another carrier. I have little use for data as I don't use Vcast. I only use Vcast phones to load my own music on. I don't know what I'll do, but for now, I won't upgrade, though I'm due for one at the end of the month.
