of this as a news segment... there isnt even an actual display of the device... just a drawing of what it may roughly look like...

why are people so excited over a rough draft device?

Not all news is huge news. In this case, it's confirmed that a Curve 8910 exists and is coming soon, as evidenced by the FCC approval. That wasn't something we could say before.

I've got a feeling a lot of people are sick of RIM's same old, same old design, 2.6in screen, things are moving in the direction of 3.5/3.7in screens, and RIM is being still with their same design.

RIM has the Storm.

I would argue that too many manufacturers have gone exclusively to the trendy large touch slab design, when a lot of people still want a physical keyboard and other practical basics. The corporate email-only set like their BlackBerrys, and RIM is smart to keep serving them. A lot of people want tried and true designs.

Don't get me wrong. I love touch-slab-style phones, and perhaps RIM should have more than just the Storm2 for Verizon. I just don't think the future belongs exclusively to touch-slab phones. There's a market for all of it, and a very big proven market for the "same old" phones RIM is producing today.

Yeah, I feel the same way about all touch, or touch-slab phones. I still prefer a physical keyboard.

I think my next smartphone will have either a 3.5/3.7in touchscreen with slideout keyboard, and Android. That's why I'm looking forward to what you report back about @ MWC.

Yeah, but because of the 1700mhz crap that Google is doing, I have to be scared that the Nexus Two won't include ATT 3G.
I heard it's going to be called the Enterprise version I think.

Hey Rich, is it true that some apps, and some games in the Android market that were made when 1.5 was out, aren't working on Android 2.1?

Jay, you're on AT&T. They should be getting the Blackberry Magnum (Touch screen AND Qwerty keyboard).

Last I heard this phone was going to go to Verizon because Verizon wasn't going to let a RIM phone with touch screen capability go to another carrier!

No but they could have a exclusive contract that would keep touch screen phones RIM makes only availble through their network!

ie... Apple and AT&T

They could, but it is highly unlikely that RIM would enter into a long term contract under those terms. They may agree to keep the Storm only with Verizon. They may agree to give VZW 6 months of being the only touch screen BB out there, but that's about it. They aren't Palm or something just searching for someone to work with. If AT&T wants a touchscreen BB they'll get one.
