Good job, idiots. Thanks for taking away the competitive advantage, even if it only would have been for a couple days.
...
This takes away competitive advantage?
ARE YOU SERIOUS?
No it doesnt... All it does is increase competition by carriers to...
1. Lower Prices (only 2 years AFTER a recession started, and still continues)
2. Force carriers to give loyal customers more options, in turn, prevent churn to other companies.
3. With all the new data restrictions, companies should offset their voice prices. Maybe the lower cost will pull some people away from text and data communications and back to voice channels.
Personally, when it comes to AT&T and Verizon, they both are the EXACT SAME COMPANY only one is CDMA one is GSM. With Sprint and T-Mobile the same thing, except people on Sprint and T-Mobile have the added benefit while paying less, get...

it was not just leaked here
...
MennoJan 15, 2010, 6:16 PM
I think he's referring to the people who leaked it at BGR. the reps who knew about it here said nothing until it was posted there.
...
Wake-up!!! Dont kid yourself. Verizon wanted others to follow and gain the ripple-effect from it. This was not a leak, entry level sales reps had this information. Verizon gets the follow the leader effect of POP-KAPOW-KABOM when this ATT drama hits the blogs and news. Alone the story reads "big red lowers prices" now with ATT following it reads "wireless ads lead to price war"
WAR-BABY-WAR!!!
...
MennoJan 15, 2010, 9:50 PM
no, they wanted it to launch when they announced it. Now they had to release everything early before all training was complete
...
Well then I guess Phone Scoop & BGR can train the reps then huh Menno? All the reps have to do is go to either website and bada bing they are trained.
** I was laughing while typing this**
...
MennoJan 15, 2010, 10:29 PM
Sure... and doctors should get all their training from webmd 🙂
...
Ha!!! Thanks for helping me laugh!!!
Man...I've been having a lot of trouble keeping up posts today!!!
...
MennoJan 15, 2010, 10:41 PM
My phone keeps going off. I swear it's going to revolt and refuse to go to phonescoop soon
...
That's kinda neat having an Android smartphone and having a Gmail account attatched to it, that way you get live emails!
Hey Menno, I just thought of something, earlier you were saying if a rep log into the internet through Verizon's portal they can track you, well what about in your case? You recieve alerts, and post directly from your mobile phone?
...
MennoJan 15, 2010, 10:57 PM
you can't log into the internal website from a mobilephone, so copy/paste doesn't really work.
...

oh.... so verizon trains its workforce on friday, sat and sunday? You've been in wireless too long to think that. Promos and price changes change daily without notice. Hmmm... I guess ATT is at a true disadvantage since it can only train on Sat & Sun... I'm still not buying it!!
...
MennoJan 15, 2010, 11:30 PM
Training for my old company was set to take place tomorrow. Corp reps said in the verizon forums that they were getting trainding thursday-sat. Promos and price changes happen all the time, rate plans do not, and they will cause more of a backlash than a new bogo on a phone ever would.
...
Good point, if Verizon was that secretive about this, regular reps wouldn't have known.
...
MennoJan 15, 2010, 10:31 PM
A lot of reps didn't know
...
Oh, so I guess they don't go to PS, BGR, or Engadget Mobile.
...
MennoJan 15, 2010, 10:40 PM
that's not being "told" information. Remember, Engadget and BGR have been harping for months about how a VZW iphone was "just around the corner."
the training you get is a lot more inclusive than that. not only do you learn the info, but you learn the positioning, most common objections, and ways to deal with those objections.
It is MUCH better to inform the workforce before the knowledge becomes public. I do not envy Verizon reps right now who have to answer these questions (the story was also posted on CNN) before they got any official word.
When I worked for VZW, I read those sites all the time. it doesn't mean I gave people answers based off what I read on them.
...
Even though you anonymous? You still aren't comfortable?
...
MennoJan 15, 2010, 10:56 PM
I would never release private information. When I sign a contract, I do my best to honor that contract, and when I signed up with VZW, I signed a heck of a lot of papers stating what I could and could not do with that information. I don't care if I'm anonymous or not.. I don't believe it's right so I don't do it.
Not sure how much more I can explain it than that.. I value privacy, and I feel that people who use the anonymity of the web to reveal private information that was entrusted to them is wrong.
...
Oh...then I guess you aren't a big fan of BGR then, huh, cause the news they post is all sorts of rumors!
And about a Verizon Iphone, I have read that Apple contracted Qualcomm to provide EVDO chips. That seems more like a fact than a rumor. Seems pretty solid to me.
...
MennoJan 15, 2010, 11:04 PM
I don't care about rumors, or if he looks at publically available data and connects the dots.. but when you take internal memos and post them on the website, it's wrong.
How would you like it if he made everything on your computer, and your entire browser history, open to the public because someone you trusted gave him your info?
...
Well heck, you yourself started a thread called "What's next". The wireless industry is a very, very, very fast pace evolving industry, and it's interesting to observe, both from a consumer point of view, and from a tech enthusiast point of view.
...
MennoJan 15, 2010, 11:13 PM
yes, and my what's next is pure speculation. I specifically put at the start of the thread if you KNEW something (aka, had priv. info) not to post in the thread. I love following technology, but I think our culture's lack of respect for privacy and property is disturbing
...
Menno, you are By The Book. Quite rare in this socety.
...
I already know you don't agree with me, but I feel privacy is different when it comes to individual people, whether it's nobodies like you or me, or celebrities, I can careless about celebrities, make the damn movie, and go home, beyond the movie I can careless about celebrities! And privacy with companies.
I think privacy is more important with -people- than companies.
I probably feel this way because of how greedy CEOs are, that's probably why. Most people in this country could probably make $100,000 easily if CEOs weren't so greedy, rather than most people making $25-$40,000.
...
MennoJan 15, 2010, 11:29 PM
I already stated financials should be public (and they are, if you want to wade through corporate books every year)
I think that if you don't respect an organization's right to private information, you can't respect a persons.
...
Well I don't know what to say, I differentiate betwwen the two.
...
MennoJan 15, 2010, 11:33 PM
I view a company as nothing more than a group of individuals. they are not some meta being.
If I am given information about that company, I am given that information by someone, if I reveal that information I betray someone.
It's the way I was raised, to act honestly and make my word my bond.
...
I really don't get this, Phone Scoop is a completly anonymous place, reps can say absolutly anything and reamin anonymous.
...
MennoJan 15, 2010, 10:30 PM
Not really. I know most of the people who worked for the company I did, and I know their user names on here (without them telling me) also, if they post from work, everything is tracked, AND when you log into the internal verizon website, it allows them to track if you copy/paste/print information.
...
Competitive advantage? This is Phone Scoop, not an executive boardroom!!!
...
PS is starting to annoy me, it seems there is less phone info and more stir the pot controversial information. And I'm as bad as the next on this.
...
Well, not the website itself, but the lack of actual consumer/phone geeks that annoys me, there are so, so many on here that are employees/fanboys in the wireless industry.
I come to this website because I'm an enthusiast of cell phone and wireless news & technology. And I wish there were more just regular wireless tech enthusiasts on here.
I think what both of us are saying is that PS is becoming a very polarized place.
...
Howard's Forums perhaps?
...
Ah...another good place! I don't really go there all that much because it seems to be a very, very advanced place, like xda developers, and as one poster said one time, a smartphone is only as smart as it's user, and well, I just don't consider myself on the same level as those on the howard forums & xda developers.
...
MennoJan 16, 2010, 12:03 AM
There are quite a few phone geeks on here. But not all of them have the "the companies are always evil" mentality that you expect them to have. On top of that, a lot of employees are phone geeks too. I dare you to read Epik's stuff and then call him a fanboy.
It's becoming polorized because people assume that if you have ANYTHING positive to say about a carrier, or even just a feature, your a fanboy, and if you hate it, you need to be a consumer. It's a false argument.
...
Well heck, I say positive things about Verizon, and things against ATT, such as Verizon is ambitous, and ATT lacks ambition, and yet, I'm an 8yr ATT customer. I also say positive things about Tmo. I think it's awesome that Tmo is bringing a device such as the HD2 stateside.
So I say positive things about companies that I'm not even a customer of. So I'm not a fanboy.
...
MennoJan 16, 2010, 12:36 AM
But what I'm saying is that if people disagree with you, you have the tendency to write them off as a corp geek/fanboy, and if they agree with you you always say something like "it's good to see other regular consumers around here, too many people are corporate fanboys"
there is a lot of fanboyism here, but there's a lot of people (including reps) that are here cause they like cellphones, and they know that pushing their carrier above everything on a forum is pointless
...
Yeah that makes sense that reps are also cell geeks, it makes them better at their job.
...
This is leak is not competive, its actually sucks for those who is trying to save money on the lower tiered plans, like ones who DO NOT USE data and are forced to use data..
I use a QWERTY phone and no WEB, and now if I want to upgrade to something w/ a QWERTY I am forced to take the data. UGH!
