!!!!!WHY!!!!!! does it matter what device someone has as to how much voice costs, a qwerty frinkin keyboard has absolutly NOTHING to do with VOICE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Qwerty keyboards are for txt'g & emailing (and posting on Phone Scoop.)
I just don't get why someone has to pay more for voice on a smartphone, or a txt'g phone.
Maybe it's the same old simple answer: greed!
Fellow phone scoopers, remember when responding, I DON'T work in the wireless industry, I'm not brainwashed by a corporation, I am a CONSUMER.
And by the way $120 frinkin dollars for unlimited voice on 2-lines, that like what $50 MORE than what Tmo charges for the same exact thing?
Once Tmo gets a similar device to the Nexus One with a slideout keyboard I am very...

umm... not sure what you're talking about here Jay... all the prices stayed the same, with the exception that the dropped the unlimited voice plan by 30
...
They are differentiating between how much unlimited voice costs depending on whether you have a regular phone, a qwerty phone, or a smartphone, each kind of phone voice costs the consumer more, having a qwerty keyboard on a phone has absolutly nothing to do with how much voice should cost.
That's what I'm getting at here, I read the article.
...
MennoJan 15, 2010, 5:27 PM
no, they are charging differently based on family plan.
Unlimited voice: 69.99
Unlimited voice +texting: 89.99 (+20 for texting plan)
Unlimited Voice+Data (smartphone): 99.99 (69.99 for voice, 30 for data)
They basically tried too hard to match verizon's announcement instead of just laying out what they actually were talking about.
...
ahhh the voice of reason

I read it a second time, it doesn't say unlimited 2-lines for $90, 2-lines unlimited is $120, which is a whole, whole lot more than what Tmo charges for unlimtied 2-lines.
So your saying that those increased prices for qwerty/smartphone devices aren't inceased voice prices, but that they just include the price for txt and data charges also?
...
MennoJan 15, 2010, 6:19 PM
of course it's more expensive than Tmobile, they've always been. they don't care about tmobile's pricing (yet). They are doing this to compete with Verizon.
They used to charge $99 PER PHONE for unlimited voice. Now they are charging 69.
they didn't increase any prices (yet) they just include the price of data in smartphones (since it requires it) and messaging with media phones (since most people get it)
...
I think AT&T is not allowing an Unlimited Talk only option for those qwerty messaging phones...just unlimited talk and text.
...
MennoJan 15, 2010, 6:34 PM
if that's the case... that would be interesting.
Still makes more sense than 30 a month for unlimited data on an 8360.. but yeah.
...
By the way if you have prepaid you can use any kind of texting phone you'd like if you don't want the web. I've used Blackerry (no web), Nokia smartphones (no web), HTC FUZE, TILT II (no web). The phones do not require this WEB service!!!! The contracts do!!!!! Go prepaid if you don't need the web!!!! I've even heard of people using the iPhone but if you have an iPhone with no web you're an idiot. 😁
...
MennoJan 16, 2010, 10:16 AM
it doesn't work that way with Verizon
...
KilyaJan 16, 2010, 5:00 PM
Don't do this with your iPhone. AT&T does not support the use of the iPhone the GoPhone plans and I have seen it all to often where people put their iPhone on a PrePaid and it eats all their money in a matter of hours. Again because this phone is not supported by use of PrePaid AT&T does not have to give your money back... This is just a warning.

"AT&T's messaging phones (those with QWERTY keyboards) can purchase unlimited talk for $90 (individual) and $150 (Family Talk - two lines). These plans include the $20/$30 texting fees."
Ummmmm...yeah. That's what I am saying.
...
Problem is, I have 3 lines on my acount, so there for none of these ulimited individual, or unlimited 2-line plans benefit me.
...
MennoJan 16, 2010, 4:46 PM
Besides that you can add a third line.. If it's anything like Verizon's (which I'm willing to bet it is) for family plans you add the third line for 50.
...
Oh well probably in the not too distant future I'm going to minus the 3rd line on my account and simplify things, 2-lines unlimited voice & txt for ?150? I think. Plus $30 for unlimiited data for me on an ATT Android device that I eventually intend to get.
Rich is going to be at Mobile World Congress next month. But he said that it's mostly European stuff, and might not have any announcements involving U.S. carrier relationships.

Since you are just a consumer and not brainwashed like the rest of us...let me explain this to you. They are not charging you more for voice because your using a messaging phone or a data phone. What the wireless industry likes to do is bundle plans. The reason why theyre charging you $20 more for the messaging phone is for the required text plan. The voice plan is still the same amount.
with regards to Tmo being so much cheaper for the "same thing". It is not the same thing. There are parts of the country where Tmo has very good coverage, but for the majority of the country they do...

Simmer down hot sauce, reread the article and do it slowly. The only difference in the pricing is whether or not you have a Smartphone/PDA or a non Smartphone. Messaging and voice plans are the same for all phones.

Actually, with T-Mobile there are two unlimited plans and the one that is lesser ($79.99) does not allow for a contract, which means you have to pay full price for any phones (though you can pay installments over 20 months) and if you change an existing plan to that play you may have to pay either $35 or $200 if you recently reset your contract. The other option is for two phones for $99.99 which is $20 less than these plans offered.

I very, very rarely use the word "irate" but this LACK OF FLEXIBITY with Tmobile is a really HUGE hold up for me, I want to switch to Tmobile, but it's my account, and I should have the ability to change my account +/- ANYTIME I choose to without effecting my contract, which eventually I should be able to go month-to-month. Is Tmo the ?ONLY? company left that punishes it's customers that make rate plan changes? This is really frinkin frustrating, whatever happened to ?FREEDOM?
Contracts are SUPPOSE to be for equipment upgrades, not rate plan changes!

Not on AT&T. Nor has it since I've been with them since 2004. You're contract is only on the subsidized plan. And as long as I've been with them, you can change plans without a contract extension.
...
That's why I like ATT, you can change you plan without contract exention. That's a major, major hold up for me with Tmobile!!!! Contracts are for EQUIPMENT upgrades, not account modifications.
That's probably what will keep me with ATT.

Right but better then nothing and bring the cost down to close to what TMO will charge. Oddly these new plans just might work for me, I can spend few bux more and get more voice minutes.
...
More voice minutes? Why not just go with one of the new unlimited plans?
I can't because these plans only cater to single and 2-line accounts, I have 3-lines.

That is the problem, I have 5 lines, the 5th I can drop, its un-needed and my toy line. But I also have two texting fiend and talking teenaged daughters. So far the minutes are ok, but I can see it causing a problem sooner rather then later.
...
What carrier are you with? Verizon has friends & family, and ATT has A-list, that should help you with your minutes.
And, what do you mean by the 5th line on your acct is a toy line?
...
Sometimes, people add a line or keep a line around so they can stagger the upgrades out. I have two lines active, only use one but the upgrades are a year apart, so that I can get a new phone every year, vs every 18-24 mo.

T-Mobile does not renew contracts for every line on an account when one line goes through an equipment upgrade. Overall I've found your posts to be logical and informative but you're incorrect in this instance.

Well...I am a current ATT customer (have been for over 8yrs). I'll probably compare Android devices with ATT & Tmo. Who knows. I'm hoping I'll know what HTC Android devices are coming to ATT next month during Mobile World Congress.
...
I hear mid March for the Backflip. I don't know about anything else.

Ah, not interested in the Backflip, nor the Dell, so I'm waiting to see what HTC is prepping for ATT. I'm hoping to know next month when Mobile World Congress takes place.
It'll be fun to actually have a device that has an app marketplace, and to use to play games, and whatever other sorts of apps there are.

Me too, I guess only time will tell.

So if you don't have to have web on your phone why wouldn't you just do their prepaid unlimited????? Unlimited talk and text (includes international) with no contract! No fees! NO tax! Just $60. I can understand maybe the discount on the phone but that's what ebay is for. They use the same coverage map!!!

Try T-Mobile, you will be back to AT&T in a week. I used to be a Tech for Tmobile and I will tell you that their service is always having issues. The reason you see cheaper Tmobile plans is because Tmobiles network is Tiny compared to AT&T. You want coverage, its gonna cost you a little bit more.
