EXPENSIVE!

The actual cost to these cell phone providers to provide voice and data services are very low. They are charging 2000 to 3000% of actual cost. Now I believe in companies making profits, but not obscene money. VZW could offer a unlimited voice, texting, data plan for $50 a month and still make a healthy profit.

Texting is the biggest money maker for them and also the biggest scam out there. It cost VZW under a penny to send a text, actually it costs them nothing really because it's a product of what's already there. You would have to understand how texting works in order to understand how much VZW and others are ripping you off.

Actually, it costs them nothing to send text messages. It goes over the paging chanels that's already there, so there's no infrastructre cost. It's just pure profit.

Your forgetting about the SMS gateway connected to the paging channel, and the cost of transporting data from tower to tower, the cost of transportation from network to network, and carrier interconnect agreements.

Explain, then, why Sprint's fine print says if you exceed 800 minutes of roaming we have the right to cancel your service. If their doing 3000% profits, you should be able to do the simply everything plan all on roaming with 5000 minutes of usage without them raising a stink about it.

Because the guy isn't factoring in network costs, transaction fees, and a host of other things. Verizon does make a decent profit, but in modern business, a profit of 20% is considered astronomical.

Verizon DOES have an unlimited talk and text plan for $50, providing you stay within their network to do it.

Thank you, Menno. It's clear that he has no clue about the backbone of a wireless network. I hate when people say that it costs a wireless company next to nothing to route calls/sms. They are the same people who have never seen a mobile telephone switch, all of the equipment and people there to maintain/upgrade it, and have never seen a call center. They don't realize that when they call customer service, they are not generating any revenue. The revenue to run the call centers, switches, and building out the whole network infrastructure all come from....charging people for voice minutes, and for data and text messaging. The switch-over to LTE, the purchasing of alltel, and the network conversions all cost $$, so, guess what, it has to ...

How about instead of $50, they charge $49.99 a month. No, wait... how about $47 a month? Heck, if they can afford that and still be profitable, how about $45? Or $40? How low do you go exactly, and where did you get your business degree? Oh, and when did a company lowering their prices become bad news? Am I missing something? 😕

I did take into consideration the running of the company, buying of equipment so forth and so on, I have worked in the cell phone industry for too many years than I want to remember. What you didn't take into consideration is the compensation of the higher ups which is way beyond what it should be. The CEO's who take the ideas of the underlings and claim them to be their own, are paid way more than they should be. Look it up sometime, you will be floored!
