Living in Rochester all my life, my whole family and many friends worked for the City's largest employer. Kodak has always been an extremely innovative manufacterer and supplier of photo technology. It is very dificult to incorporate cameras in products without some form of Kodak invention. I would like to see what Apple has insituted in their product that warranted this initiative. Kodak doesn't just sue anyone.

Yes. Kodak has been seeing a down. However, it has only been the last few years that smartphones have incorporated these ways to retrieve pictures for viewing and Kodak has met wall after wall with talks with these companies that have started using this technology. Samsung settled out of court. Apple and RIM are choosing not to.

So, in short, As phones become more sophisticated, so does the camera features. Kodak does have patents on many of the features that are only now being fostered in on these devices.

I guess, its up to the lawyers and courts to sort this out, but retrieving pictures for display has been on computers for years, as well as on digital cameras, and honestly there is no or little difference.

Many times these threats, even from Apple, who I admit is a sue happy company, and even so its not the worst. Are used not so much for compensation but to use as a hammer to cross license technology from another company. And yes even Apple does this, especially with MSFT.

BTW, I'm still bitter at the loss of Kodachrome. But I admit times change.

Kodachrome was the area my Uncle worked in at time of retire. His sentiments are echoed with yours as well as many. Truly a great chemical mix.

Actually, computers have licensed some of these techs for years. However, they process info differently. Because of the complexities of todays new smartphones, the knowledge appeared to have been forgot about. We shall see. But I suspect a loss for the two phone manufactures. Samsung was smart to settle.
