Does anybody still use the ancient iDen network? Do people still sign up for and use the Nextel side of Sprint? It direct connect still cool?

I am actually being serious. I porter over to Sprint years ago right after the merger, because iDen in my area (Downriver Michigan) was horrid! Is it any better? Direct connect was the new hotness back when I was in high school (similar to texting/smartphone craze of today).

A lot of people, especially businesses swear by it.. not exactly sure why.. my dad has nextel still and I can only reach him maybe 1/2 the time I want to call him.

Nextel is deff a business phone company. thus a "2mp camera with video" is a high end feature.

I work in a hospital with about 8,000 employees. the hospital company phone is Nextel and all you hear all day is chirp chirp. I even bought one to get in on all the fun, but once i left work I didn't have a signal for crap. what I didn't know is that there were antennas inside the ceiling all through out this campus and thats why I had suck a good signal.

Most businesses actually get repeaters inside. Sometimes Nextel even foots the bill if the account is large enough.

Gosh, every company should do that! Provide repeaters.

Stupid question for you. If a company provides repeaters for a certain building, that would also benefit surrounding cell traffic also right? Like passer by people, pedestrians, and so on?

I brought a used I880 last month that I use on Boost Mobile. It's a good phone. But where is the update. I was hoping they would come out with a phone with a 2.4 inch screen and a 20 key sure type keyboard. Nextel does not get it. Phones are used for voice, texting and web.

Wow, 8,000 employees, that's a lot!!!!! I don't know what is average for a hospital, but that seems like a lot.

I live in Las Vegas, and the recently hired Aria Casino Hotel has about 9,000 employees.

What city do you live in?
