No really... Mobile TV is a worthless investment for ANY company.
...
At this moment, MobileTV may seem like a less than stellar investment. 3G does not employ a very enjoyable experience. However with WiMax and upcoming LTE, I think the end results will be rather pleasing. I am curious to see how many channels will eventually be offered via 4G technology.

MobileTv doesn't come from 3G/4G, it comes from Qualcomm's MediaFlo technology.
...
This is why mobile TV is failing... People don't understand the technology, so they can't appreciate just how cool it is.
Once upon a time, Qualcomm bought a company called Flarion. Flarion had done much to develop a technology called OFDMA, which had incredibly high bandwidth, but it had a drawback: the bandwidth was particularly suited for one-way communication. What to do with such a tech? Broadcast. Broadcast mobile TV.
So Qualcomm built a whole frigging network based on OFDMA, called MediaFLO. MediaFLO runs in its own spectrum, apart from those occupied by the cell phone providers, so it does not bog down 3G networks. If you've ever seen a program broadcast over MediaFLO, you may have been amazed at how good the quality is. At least ...

When mobile digital TV becomes commonplace, who will want to pay for something that they can get OTA for free? I would much rather get my local stations on my device for free than pay a subscription for Qualcomm.

While I haven't used it a great deal, I've been fairly impressed with SprintTV. While waiting outside a ToysRUs on Thanksgiving Night, I was able to watch the end of the Giants game. I was expecting a fairly choppy experience with a lot of buffering. Of course it helps that Sprint doesn't charge extra for it.

...or how "cool" it is. Only tech geeks care about how cool technology is. The reason the public doesn't much care for Mobile TV is because the content being provided just isn't interesting enough to watch on a mobile phone.
Once you can watch PORN on your mobile phone....oh believe me, people will magically start finding it "cool."

Hmmmmm...another reason the iphone is popular perhaps?

That's very interesting to know. I do remember now hearing something about that. What else is interesting is that I am in the understanding that WiMax and LTE are both using the same OFDMA technology for their downloads. If I am correct with this, it would be a great thing if they could integrate the MediaFlo and the 4G technology to work harmoniously. The main issue though would be cable companies as they have expressed broadcasting over 4G networks. This would create enormous competition for MobileTV.
Just guessing.
