If so...

A lot of people are wondering when ATT is going to get their act together and start to offer Android handsets???!!!??? ATT is the only national carrier still remaining that is yet to offer an Android handset.

Last with Android, and will probably be last with LTE too.

Seriously, why can't they just make one version thats compatible with both north american gsm 3g frequencies ?? And we don't 5 different bands, just three : 1700/1900/2100. Its one thing when making one phone for gsm and another for cdma, but 2 gsm phones for the north american gsm market is unreasonable.

They would have to make the phone able to run 900/1700/2100 for 3g and 850/1900 for 2g. I heard the google phone (nexus one) does run all of them right now so hopefully phones in the future run them all

I seem to recall that T-Mobile USA uses 1700/2100. And Europe uses 900/2100. (which is why T-Mobile USA 3G phones tend to be 900/1700/2100 -- so you can use it both in the US and with their European sisters).

So, 2100 isn't just for Asia, last I checked.

Maybe they do it so they can sell it to the carrier. Why would AT&T want to subsidize a phone that you can take to T-Mobile in case you don't like their service (or vice-versa). It makes good sense to make the phone as desireable to who they want to sell it to--the telcos. If they want to only sell direct to consumer then having both 3G bands makes better sense.

@ kingstu:

What you're saying makes perfect sense if the carriers decide to pickup the phone. But I feel that this phone wouldn't get carried for several reasons: 1) Price tag -- too high 2) High End Sony Ericsson devices have never been popular here 3) I'm not sure if At&t wants to go headfirst down the android path yet [they have a really crappy first android device scheduled] and I have a feeling they may fear that a high tech android devices would impact iphone sales too much. I also couldn't see T-mobile selling the device directly either because its officially against their religion to sell anything high tech [ just look at the android devices they have vs what europe is carrying]. But I maybe wrong.
