you big fat lier verizon! The 1.99 charge can occur when you accidentally opening anything mobile web. if you don't change your short cuts it's easy to do. Hell my gzone would occur data charger when i powered if off and back on. i would see the data icon when it was powering on doing whatever and sure enough 1.99...maybe it just does that with ptt phones. i have to always call those blood suckers and have it reversed. big waste of time. and they're always trying to stick it to you, they claimed one time that the free411 was not FREE. Finally a half hour later they said oh our bad. Verizon blows chunks sometimes.

Are you kidding me? Did you ever bother to ask Verizon Wireless why you were getting the $1.99 charge? Chances are you are incurring the charge because of backup assistant. The reason you see sending and receiving arrows is because its connecting to Verizons phone network. It is true that if you navigate away from home screen then you get charged. Also, if you change your homepage to somehig over then VZW's home page then you will start charges as soon as page fully loads.

Just switch to Sprint, the customer service is great and they also have the only 4G network is certain cities, I live in Baltimore and my internet is really fast. And they charge nearly half as much as Verizon does to cancel the service. Personally I think if you are not satisfied with the service you should be charged almost 400 dollars to cancel. And Sprint also haves this 30 guarantee, I had a Palm Pre for two weels and i wasnt happy with it, i went to the store and they switched it out for HTC Hero, all i had to do was pay the difference. 🙂

The above response is another reason why the high etf. That phone that was returned can no longer be sold as a new device. Verizon loses billions on equipment every year because of returns like that. Someone thinks they have to get a blackberry or smart phone and 2 weeks later realize the phone is way to complicated for them and return it. I talked to a customer that was in his 70's who had gone thru a blackberry storm, tour, imagio, alias 2 env touch and a Samsung rouge and finally ended up getting a Samsung knack. All of those phones cannot be resold. Now this is just one example now multiply that by god knows how many idiots and now you can maybe understand how it takes so long to recoup costs.

Frank Rizzo,
I've been with AT&T since 2003, I have five lines, I've returned a phone twice, once I didn't care for it, and opted for a different phone, thats when I first signed with them, second was with a crappy phone they sold last year called the Quickfire. All the carriers offer and advertise this, and for honest folk, its a good. Phones like the Pre, Droid, iPhone are expensive in comparison and have expensive plans, at least with AT&T and VZW, I think its great that they allow the customer to feel OK with their purchase. Sure it cost them something, not sure what the actually return rate is. But this has nothing to do with ETF.

The loss isn't as big as it may seem. Those phones go to warranty and insurance. They may not get money for the phone, but they keep the customer and the payments for the plan to support the device (I'm referring the the customer who gets the "refurbished" device.
