ETFs were too low anyway. Carriers should just charge a customer the retail (unsubsidized) price of a phone if they leave their contract early. Even $350 is too low in some cases. Who can't keep a 2 year commitment anyway besides gadget junkies who have to have the newest thing with the latest features?

Yea, for example some uber smartphones break $600 wholesale, and thanks to AT&T, they have to sell $199 after rebate on a 2-year. $600-300=$300 and that doesn't take into account the rebate, which widens the gap to $400. A $175 ETF does not make up for that.

I actually think the opposite.

I think carriers NEED to have PRORATED fees to start.

In Europe and Australia, carriers have admitted they recoup the cost of the phone within the first 3 months of the contracts. So...why cant Sprint, AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile all get with the program?

I also think that carriers dont HAVE to sell anything for $199, they CHOOSE to do so, because their plan rate will make up for the cost of the phone anyway. So again, where is the subsidy not being made from?

As for "advanced devices" a lot of "dumbphones" cost the same as low end smartphones, and I see no reason an ETF need to remain $120 on the last month! I MEAN MY GOD! It should be high, but go down each month till there is $0.00 left.

AT&T is $175, and it drops by $5 per month for the entire length of the contract. If you cancel 1 month prior, it ends up being $60.

It's just Verizon with the retarded ETF policy. Whatever...it works for me, I work for Sprint and everytime i tell somebody about the new ETFs and they see what they'll save each month they jump on board.

Verizon's ETF is also pro rated. 5 a month on normal plans, 10 a month on new advanced devices.
