This has to be the most painful admission any wireless provider could ever make. How the heck can you call yourself a wireless service provider, push iphones/smartphones that use the web for their 'smart' abilities, and then tell your customers that they can't surf the web? Face the music, LTE can only be as good as the infrastructure it's implemented in. This has to be an At&t issue period. They should have paid more attention to WIMAX which seems to be the way to go if you ask me. At&t will be served some legal b*tch slaps for this.

OMG!!! Where does it say those words in the article??? How do you guys keep reading it like that?

at&t smartphone users use double the data of verizon users. If they aren't browsing and using their phones for their "smart" abilities I'd sure love to know what they are using it for.

This defeats the purpose for having the Iphone...period. At&t is trying to discourage "surfing the internet or downloading mobile applications..." Current Iphone users are using their phones exactly for the purposes it was 'marketed' with, plain and simple. It's a 'cool' device for entertainment and very capable for business applications additionally. You can't penalize your end users when you equip them with devices and contractually agree to enable them to use their devices at their discretion. This should effectively breach any phone contract 'smart' phone users have with At&t.

Adding free wifi and femtocells is a breach of contract?? How do you explain that? Last I heard rumors weren't a breach of contract. They were just rumors.

Think about it. You have serious issues if you are discouraging data use on your main network and encouraging your customers to hunt for a wifi hotspot or get a femtocell. If they are willing to give free wifi access and/or femtocell units to all subscribers that would be great! The reality is that this will never happen and they obviously are at a standstill in terms of the direction they are going with the current network.

What does this have to do with LTE or WIMAX!!?? AT&T has no plans for 4G for several years. WIMAX will be great for people who want to be tied to one provider in one country.

AT&T's issues are purely about infrastructure, not technology. They are exploring options to expand that infrastructure using a variety of methods, some of which are less expensive and faster to implement than network upgrades.

At&t always touts being the biggest spender on their network in the wireless universe. They're not effectively putting their money where their mouth is. How can you tell your customers that we're spending the millions you're paying us to improve and speed up things up but sorry we can't meet your demands?
