I know the iPhone takes a lot of bandwidth, but is it really killing AT&T's network that bad or is it just in those major cities?

Considering that most of the 3G coverage is "just in those major cities"...

Yeah from working at ATT for a while during the Iphone release and such you would be surprised at how many people flopped to Iphone even though it was edge and people were constantly on them searching web and most of them are on youtube daily because of the ease of access. Now think about this everyone's mom and grandma has one now and they are on 3g = faster = more data transmitted= more users= strained network ☹️

When I was working there as a manager my voice really didn't mean anything because I suggested they place 3g on every available att/cingular tower (can't do anything about t-mobiles). Because it is like 50+% cheaper to run on 3G so why was the build out so delayed. Oh well live and learn I know that when we sold phones that ...

I agree with another poster that ATT needs a new, fresh CEO, somebody who actually has a vision.

AT&T reminds me a lot of Sprint when I first started working there. They were getting a lot of subscribers because of the low credit standard. They had the absolute worst customer service and made no real attempt to make it better being they were still gaining subscribers. But then people all of a sudden started hating their service and as their contracts were up, they started bleeding customers. Then started the scramble to make things better.

AT&T should see the hell they are going to be in for. Folks will only take so much for a company before they leave and go somewhere else.

I agree, someone needs to have some vision. Dan Hesse came to Sprint and my days there as a rep improved astronomically. I guess we shall see...

I'm guessing since ATT has, what 20m or so more customers than Sprint, if ATT did start bleeding a whole lot of customers per quarter, that it would be more than what Sprint did. Essentially what I'm saying is the more customers a company has, the more they could lose in a short period of time.

It'll be very interesting to see what's going on with ATT, say this time next year. I say this time next year because by the end of 2010 Verizon is suppose to have LTE rolled out in 20-30 markets, it'll just be interesting to see what market shifts will be taking place this time next year.

Pretty much the leading reasons I stay with ATT is 1 it's GSM, I can buy an unlocked unbranded phone, that is too good for ATT, N95 is what I've been carryin...

it's fun because working where i do, i can watch the real health and trends of at least 2 of the major carriers despite what fanboys and forum trolls say.

our company has both Sprint and AT&T channels, and I feel pretty badly for our AT&T guys. They're all red this month while the Sprint locations are green, this is despite the fact that Apple is finally letting independant retailers carry the iPhone.

Looking over cost, profit, and commission structures for the iPhone I can see why AT&T is busting at the seems. Apple's got a sweet deal going for themselves, and AT&T is running around with their heads cut off trying to improve infrastructure for a phone that makes them a pitiful profit - but hey their subscription #'s look good right? ...

What I'm curious about, is if ATT took managing their network more seriously, how much better COULD it he??? I wonder.

The only issues I see are that in marginal coverage areas where I can get solid 2-4 bars of EDGE coverage, the 3g bounces from 0-3 bars and is less stable. Whether that is from iPhones bogging down the network or not who knows.

But when the service is full bars damn watch out! It is blazing fast on my bb 9700.

the answer is no, its really not that bad.

The reasons they even brought up Tiered pricing is because some 3% of the users are using nearly half of the data traffic. They are simply looking for ways to make the network experience better for everyone. 97% of the customers are using unlimited data every day and are *not* using what is considered to be excessive bandwidth.

Probably half of the 3% don't realize they are using the amounts that they are.....eg surfing 3G while at starbucks or at home when all they have to do is turn on Wi-Fi and they would get much better speeds. FYI
