ATT Interesting

I guess this would be one way of getting a Android phone on ATT (if their 3G bands are supported)? ๐Ÿคจ
But I have a feeling this will be offered overseas first.

My thoughts exactly. I am very interested in finally finding a phone to replace my long line of Blackberries. Not that there's anything wrong with them, just time for something new and nothing up to this point has done it for me. The Android series of phones has me ready to pull the trigger and switch. And the only potential Android AT&T phone even mentioned was from the declining computer company Dell, and didn't have me very confident. This may finally do it.

OldPhone,
Actually the Acer Liquid is another potential, but its a rumor as well. Another rumor was AT&T was going to toss the Hero out next month to get something started. Well its speculation.

Same problem with the Acer in an unproven manufacturer attempting to jump on the wagon.

The Hero would be interesting and I would likely go with it though. I hadn't read about that rumor.

Bottom line, if AT&T does not get on the Android wagon and keeps putting all their eggs into the iPhone, as good as it is, they are going to lose. Their strategy the past few years has been hurting them, particularly with putting too much emphasis into the dying landline industry and U-Verse. I am a huge fan of U-Verse, but, it is not available anywhere near where I live, which leaves so many people out in the cold.

Their exclusivity with the iPhone won't last. Every carrier has Windows Mobile (which is OK, but, needs a lot of improvement.)...

The only reason data sales have increased so much is because it is being FORCED onto consumers, and carriers are TELLING people how to use devices that the consumer paid for.

No one is forcing people to purchase the phones. They decide that they want the phone and don't like what comes with it. The best way around it, don't buy the phone.

The phones are designed and intended, and priced with the understanding that in order to use them the way they are intended is that they actually get used in that way.

Don't like it? Don't buy it. Simple.

OldPhone,
Usually I don't agree with that kind of stuff, but yes, if one wants just voice and maybe texts, there are somewhat reasonable all you can eat plans, get as good regular reliable phone, and you're connected.

Back to the Nexus One, outside of initial outlay for the phone of there abouts $500, after that in my case, it will be an added line for 10 bux, and 10 bux for medianet on AT&T. If the DeathStar sells this phone, my data would go up by $20 to $30. So after a year, the phone cost becomes a wash.

It's up to NOBODY but the OWNER of the device to determine how to use what they OWN, it isn't up to someone else to tell someone how to use something that they OWN, and paid for with their own money.

And it is nobody's but the cell company's right to determine how their network is going to be used. Just because you own a phone doesn't mean you get to access their network. They get to set the guidelines. And in this case, they've decided you have to have data access to use a smart phone on the network they own.

Well, its being given to Google employees some time in the next week or so.

As far as AT&T goes, not so much this phone then again maybe, but it is logical that something comes along their way in Android. 88 plus million potential customers plus Canada and other Latin American nations use the same 3g bands does have the attention of companies like HTC whom are usually faster to adapt then others.

On Engadget's website, there is an update (Tweet) from John Gruber from Daring Fireball, that the Nexus One phone will support T-Mobile's 3G band.

Whatever. ๐Ÿ˜•

But here's evidence that it may run ATT 3G bands.

but he said that the Nexus One he handled was running on an AT&T SIM card.

It may very well be true what Gruber said, but that was rumored. In some ways I can see it, TMO has been loyal to Google and Android. But then again, money talks BS walks, AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus plus Latin American carriers don't use AWS. Also, HTC has been making Euro-NAM UMTS radios for several years. The again, who knows?? Time will tell.

As an unlocked GSM device, the Nexus One could be used with T-Mobile or AT&T, though it's unclear which carrier's 3G bands the handset will support. During his brief tour, Howell wasn't able to test the performance, but he said that the Nexus One he handled was running on an AT&T SIM card
