Gov Agency Says FCC Not Doing Enough

Is this REALLY what the FCC should do?

From the FCC's website: The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is an independent United States government agency. The FCC was established by the Communications Act of 1934 and is charged with regulating interstate and international communications by radio, television, wire, satellite and cable. The FCC's jurisdiction covers the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. possessions.

As much as I like protecting consumers, I don't see how that job falls within the jurisdiction of the FCC, if the above quote is their mission statement. Let's take cell phones out of the mix. If the price of AM/FM radios doubled overnight, would the FCC be able to tell manufacturers and retail stores not to charge the higher prices, or would the FCC b...

very interesting. i understand that cell phones use radio waves to communicate but that mission statement said they regulate radio communications themselves, not the companies contracts with their customers.

To be fair, I didn't dig very far into the FCC's website to see if consumer advocacy was part of its responsibilities, but if you were to take a strict look at the FCC, it would seem that the FCC should be more concerned about whether or not cellular phone frequencies would be able to safely use certain white space frequencies or not, for example.

Regulating ETFs, service rates, and other charges, if they are to be regulated by anything other than the free market, should be done by other agencies, FTC, DOJ, directly by congress, Better Business Beaureau, etc.
