FCC: Carriers can no longer charge Early Termination fees.

Carriers: Fine, you either buy the phone retail, or you buy out of your contract (and we'll keep phones free)

But that's what a lot of people here don't realize. They want the costs to go down, and the ETFs to go away, and then they'll act all surprised when carriers find another way to make up the money.

I was actually referring to ANY laws put in place to help the consumer against carriers.

the consumer can help themselves. we dont need the government to interject on our behalf. we have common sense we just need to use it.

you want subsidy, you get a contract. you dont want a contract, you pay for phone. it's as simple as that. the consumer isn't effected by the etf hike unless they terminate their service before the contract is up.

Guys...gals...there are MANY other things besides subsidies and ETF's that we need protection from when it comes to carriers. Yeah, common sense is great, but we don't exercise it too well here in the States.

if you want to stay protected from the carriers contract go to prepaid! dont be a whiny little B)#^H and ruin this countries wireless infrastructure because you're poor and don't want to get a real job! I don't want to know what city, but what state do you live in? I bet you spend 10-15 times more on your house payment than you do on your cellphone bill and you are saying the cell companies gouge you?

Get the wax out of your ears you sodding 15-year-old ingrates.

I'm talking about protection from carriers by the FCC or whatever governmental entity. Good God, kids...READ the posts!

YOU'RE THE PROBLEM!! Why does the FCC need to hold your hand and protect you from carriers? If you don't like the way your carrier is treating you then go to a different one! Sign up for prepaid service and you will never have to worry about contracts or ETF's or paying to much for monthly service. It is called responsibility and if you cant trust yourself enough then don't get a cellphone.

What you need is protection from yourself not from carriers!

Fine, fine. When you get screwed by a carrier don't come crying to us.

Any laws & regulations that protect us as consumers is a good thing.

Wow, you really are dense.

You're right. We should have no regulation to protect any of us. Let 'em run roughshod over us. Whee!

I am right, a company is in business to make a profit. NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS they want to make money. A company publicly traded company has to decide between its investors and its customers. If it shows no profits then its investors fire the board and get people in that WILL make money.

Lets compare companies for a few moments... we can call this Economics 101.

USPS- The United States Postal Service (USPS) is an independent agency of the United States government responsible for providing postal service in the United States.
Operating income US $−3.74 billion (2009)
We PAY TAXES to send mail AND we get sub par service matched with no guarantee the item we send will ever arrive at its destination.

I quoted your first sentence because I wasn't about to read another of your long-winded, asinine posts. That's how far I got.

Whatever. I'm bored. You know my stance. If you don't like it, you know the drill. Long Pier, Murmerer; Murmerer, Long Pier.
