AT&T Mobility CES Ralph de la Vega told investors at a UBS conference in New York that the company plans to implement measures to reduce the strain on its network. He said, "We need to educate the customer to reduce or modify their usage. We've got to get them to understand what represents a megabyte of data. We're improving all our systems to let consumers get real-time information on their data usage." Mr. de la Vega did not say exactly how it plans to enforce any sort of new policy, but the Associated Press said that a usage-based policy is inevitable. Right now, AT&T's smartphone users have no limit on how much data they can consume per month.

so they want you to pay your bill but not use there service. must be one of there 100,00...

AT&T should be more interested in improvements then threats, changing habits, the iPhone constantly is using data, different for the most part then any other phone. Cap me, I don't care, I will term ETF free do to a terms of service change and sell my iPhones on ebay. I'm sure the other 3 carriers wouldn't mind having a rather expensive family plan from a person who pays their bill online before I get email its ready.

1) AT&T didn't officially announce they were capping anyone's bandwidth.

2) AT&T is looking into doing something about users of excessive bandwidth so that people who are tethering their phones to download torrent files aren't keeping YOU from getting your email, browsing the web, etc.

3) Every other provider already kills accounts they view as excessive. If you're consuming 25GB of data a month on a $30.00 data plan I'm pretty sure no provider wants you.

4) Unlike bandwidth caps (which weren't announced but merely implied by the AP), AT&T has been upgrading their network infrastructure (which HAS been announced).

Flag,
Not if there is a change of service from when you signed, then you can term without paying an etf. While this isn't common, it has happened several times in the past few years with different carriers. There is no arbitration, and all the carriers are aware of it.

you won't get it waived by a customer service rep. you WILL have to go thru arbitration. or speak to the legal department. wireless companies arent retarded. i highly doubt they will make a material change to the contract allowing customer's to cancel w/out etf's, especially on the omnipotent iphone.

AS some one who deals with this stuff on a daily basis.....

They will let you go or Live out your contract.

They CANT change the terms of your contract unless you agree to it.

Whats going to be Hilarious is the 10 year contracts they have were they sold off Bandwith to re-sellers.

Your going to have Joe with "ABC phones" blackbery that has Unlimted Data on his phone and thethering it his laptop sittingr right next to Mike who is watching his "ihpone data meter" hopeing he does not go over again.

How are you even able to even consume 30 GB a month on a U.S. Cellular device? Have you taken a look at their phone lineup?

So what you're saying is you're a cellular professional, and of course you know how to use as much data as possible.

I'm sure if people are tethering on the $30 plan, any carrier will sniff them out, and force them onto the $60 unlim data & tethering plan. This is the same with every carrier.
