AT&T Asks Its Customers to Become Unpaid Network Testers
What I find funny
Is that my friend use Verizon (Droid, now), I use ATT (of course the iPhone) and yet she laughs when I get drop calls while driving, but let me show you some scenarios of her drop calls.
1. We will be on the elevator going to the basement to grab our car and head to lunch. We be speaking to our moms, I'm fine and continue talking to my mom all the way down and out the basement. My friends VZW phone (Droid) drops the call (Rockaway, NJ)
2. We are sitting in our favorite restaurant, she'll be talking to her husband, drop call, calls him again, drop call. I offer my phone, she says if VZW doesn't work how is your crappy service gonna work. Takes the phone dials is on the phone for 20 minutes and finally hangs up. (Rockaway, NJ)

I can't speak for your friend, but when I drop a call I NOTICE it. I think most people do. This "Mark The Spot" free app does two things: 1) It gives AT&T feedback about their network issues. 2) It gives customers a sense that thier issues are being dealt with. It's genius really, because it reduces calls into their call centers, while making no actual promises to fix the problems. As for your friend's dropped calls vs. yours? This may only be your experience. Bloggers have been whining for a long time now about shoddy AT&T network performance. I don't think its coincidence that this "Mark The Spot" app came out during a campaign that shows the 3G Map differences between AT&T and Verizon. AT&T's Network is exposed and it's trying t...

What's funny is that everyone I know with VZW experiences drop calls, now I'm not saying either one is better or worse, etc. Yes VZW has a larger map due to a legacy standard they follow, but what I will find interesting is what's going to happen when VZW goes to LTE?
It will be interesting, all I know is I travel the continental USA allot and through and through ATT has been there for me while VZW has failed me.

For some areas, it might be the phone (regardless of carrier & GSM & CDMA) rather than carrier. The only way it could be carrier is if different phones from the same carrier drop calls in the same areas.
I know for me, Verizon works in some areas, and crappy in other areas. Both Meijer stores in my area drop calls in the back of their stores, while Sprint & T-Mobile work in the same spot. At least on the CDMA side, people have always swore that Motorola phones have the best reception, while Samsung phones have the worst. For me, I have found Samsung the best on reception, and Motorola the worst. While my Motorola W755 has better reception than my last Motorola, the 120c, I still say my Samsung a930 & a650 have better reception.

Newer Samsungs, within the last three years, are terrible. The older Samsung phones were some of the best for reception. Better than phones that are offered currently including Motorola and Sanyo.

The last call I dropped on Verizon was on April 13, 2006. Not everyone's typical experience, for sure, but a good sign that something out there is working just fine where I live.

The network with the fewest dropped calls will always be the network that works the best where you live, roam, and work.
That network could be Sprint, AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, or something you buy at the grocery store.

Verizon people ****iness is so, so, so annoying!!! I think they're brainwashed by those "network" advertisements.

So why does AT&T need to bother with an app made especially for their flagship phone?
