Qchat performance sucked and the Qchat enabled phones could never last half a day with the battery draining just sitting there. So what improvements were made to Iden?

Basically, the "improvements" were just returning the iDEN network to the performance levels it had before the merger, when Nextel was still it's own company, before Sprint ruined it.

Some of the "improvements" were just finishing the rebanding job that Nextel had already started. The rebanding part of it was not SPrint's fault, that was a legacy Nextel issue, but the lack of onvestment in iDEN, and the huge downfall in customer service, those were definitely at the hands of Sprint.

So, saying "improved" is a little misleading on Sprint's part. Kind of like tracking mud on the floor, cleaning it up, then claiming you "improved" the floor.

Sprint hasn't spent much at all on Nextel or on the iDEN network in some time. They made a con...

I don't understand why they don't have qchat on any good phones. Maybe it would be a good revenue earner if they had PTT on some decent phones. If the Palm Pre was PTT capable, I bet it would get some revenue from the added service...I would sign up for the extra $10 for PTT...why not?

Nextel had a deficiency with today's texting and messeging users. The improvements made, were done to rectify the issues Boost Mobile users brought to the table. Sprint worked hard to improve these and IDEN is better than ever. Qchat was a valiant attempt to integrate both technologies. However, IDEN is the undisputed king of PTT and Qchat was an albatross that needed to go. I commend Sprint on yet another good move to proceed forward.

Sprint has the best PTT for those that need it. Sprint now has one of the best data networks and 4G now being active. With customer service vastly improved as well, and best price plans, I feel no mud is being slung here.

I like the Qchat phones but i understand why they are doing this... i wounder if they will bring back Powersource phones? i like the iDEN network but txt and data is not as fast as Sprint... would be nice if they would make a powersource phone that used Nextel for Voice and PTT and Sprint for txt and data.

PowerSource in and of itself is a good idea, utilizing the best of two separate networks to give users the best of both worlds.

It was Sprint's lousy implementation that made PowerSource less than it could have been. Had the original Nextel done the PowerSource implementation, it would have been done correctly, and it would have been very successful.

Now they just have to stop losing subscribers, and everything will be kosher.

And they will, once all of the businesses that switched over to Verizon's push to wait service are out of contract.

More power to them if that happens. I had Sprint for a couple of years; they were great. I'd like to see them succeed, especially since my parents have been on the network forever.

Hey jrfdsf,

Is VZ's PTT still that bad? I had heard that the latest implementation by Motorola was pretty good now, but I haven't ever seen anyone using VZ PTT in the real world, so I can't compare.

Is VZ's PTT still that bad?

Thanks.

Yep, I concur with the fugly!!!

Tonight I got to play with a co-workers Droid, I currently own the Nokia N95, and I love my phone, but recently, I've been thinking maybe it's about time a get a phone that's like the Droid, nice bright large touch screen, slideout keyboard, and so on. I'd really like to have a phone with a slideout keyboard!!!

Hmm, very, very interesting!!! But can it be bought unlocked? AND THEN how would I go about getting the internet & MMS to work, unlocked Nokias are easy they automatically detect network settings, setup process on unlocked Nokia's is super easy. But how would it work on a Motorola Droid from Telus/Rogers? Not only would it have to be unlocked, but also unbranded, cause I'm sure those carriers will have their stupid boatware on there.
