Actually, yes I was. Without getting into the specifics underlying each technology, a few things are at play, from the end user standpoint.

* In terms of proliferation, GSM is better than CDMA.

* In terms of quality of connections and data transfer rates, at least in the continental US, CDMA overtakes GSM. In the US, GSM works great mostly in large metropolitan areas. Outisde of these areas and in rural areas, GSM is either spotty or non-existant. CDMA, on the other hand, is strong in large metro areas and in rural areas even if it might drop to it's lower speed variant for data. Voice service coverage remains virtually unchanged.
