I wonder how sick you'd be if they were your patents.

The problem with Klausner, from what I have seen, (and please someone correct me if I'm wrong), is that they seem to just be holding the patents for the sole purpose of suing people who use them and make them pay royalties for their use.

That is just unethical. If you have a patent, I believe you should be obligated to use the patent and bring your product to market. Klausner has had the patent since 1994, why haven't they produced an application for it?RIM's VVM app for example is made by RIM, not Klausner.

Venturing over to their website is a trip down Give-Me-A-Goddamn-Break lane. There's no place on the website that even lists its product offerings, it's all links to different emails about patents in question.

If you own a patent, you own it...period. If they change the law, fine, but until then...

I mean, the only application I see for this is that you can show off how you don't deal with voice messages people leave you.

Do you know how RIM got Blackberry? Blackberry infringed on their patents. An inventor doesn't have to be a businessman or a manufacturer. A patent is intellectual property. Most patents are sold or licenced by the inventor, who did not into business to use the patent.

Thank you so much for bringing up my favorite example!

Just to clear up your quote, I take it what you are referring to is the lawsuit between NTP, INC (a patent holding company) and RIM. RIM has always owned BlackBerry. They never "got" BlackBerry from anyone but themselves.

NTP claimed that the BES and BIS infringed on their patents, and sued RIM over it with their ideal end result to SHUT DOWN BlackBerry. In the end the courts found BlackBerry to be essential to national security and determined that was not an option. RIM eventually had to pay NTP about 650 million dollars to settle.

All I'm saying is...

Klausner is always whining about patents. If they keep scaring everybody with lawsuits nobody will use the product. With today's messaging and ease of use of calling people, voicemail isn't used as much. I can't remember when I last had a voicemail. It was months ago at least. Everybody leaves text messages these days.

If people threaten to not use their product anymore they may shutup.
