Actually it was Cingular that was HQ'd in Atlanta. AT&T is HQ'd in Tx.

AT&T's wireless division, however, is still headquartered out of Atlanta as they operate much of that division independently of the rest. I would imagine that is the key to SE's move.

Technically, Cingular is still the parent company. AT&T was purchased by Cingular and then they just used AT&T's marketing name because it had a better reputation.

I don't think AT&T Wireless had a better reputation than Cingular. SBC chose to adopt the AT&T brand because it was better known than SBC. Once that decision was made it made sense to change Cingular to AT&T Mobility to take advantage of advertising and marketing everything under the AT&T brand.

Cingular was never a parent company to begin with. SBC and Bellsouth were the parent companies. And then SBC absorbed everything in sight and decided that the brand recognition of AT&T was well worth the switch.

Anyway, we're straying from the matter at hand.
