IS THIS TRUE???

I heard/read that Verizon's 3G map includes its slower data network, Rev. O... I believe it's called that. I've never had a Verizon phone because quite honestly they've never had any phones worth my interest. Granted I considered them when they got the slew of Messaging devices... I'm not a tech-nerd, biased employee or critic, what I am is just a normal consumer who has AT&T and has loved the service I got. This ad has caught my attention and I'm curious.

What about that other data network I have on my phone, EDGE... I keep reading that it is comparable, even faster than some of the network that Verizon uses... Is there any truth to this?

Let me help clear some things up with you. First, the entire 3G footprint on Verizon's network is full EVDO (Rev. A). It is backward complatible for devices that are limited to Rev. 0 The slower part of their network is the regular CDMA. CDMA is primarily used for voice and texting. It's used for data on 2G phones or when 3G isn't available. This is not displayed in this "map battle". 3G coverage is the only factor in the map battle. As you can see in the ads, Verizon clearly has a larger 3G footprint.

As for EGDE on AT&T, it is used for data but alot slower than 3G. In my experience it's actually slower than Verizon's regular CDMA network. Compared to today's 3G wireless networks, whether it be a CDMA carrier or GSM carrier, ED...

I guess my question was whether the map includes areas that are covered by Rev. 0? A Verizon associate at my local Verizon store unfortunately spent more time berating AT&T than expalining their services.

When i'm at my house in the California Foothills (Sonora is the city) I get EDGE speed internet. It's not super fast but my experience with Verizon was horrible out there. Granted Verizon only covers Sonora because of a 3rd party agreement with a local carrier in that area. The Verizon associate I spoke with stated that Rev. 0 is a 3G service and that AT&T's EDGE service isn't 3G. If Rev. 0 is in fact a 3G service and EDGE is an older technology, why would Verizon boast if AT&T's second rate network is actually faster than Rev. 0?

The blue portion of the map is Verizon's broadband coverage and is EV-DO Rev. A. The yellow portion is Extended Broadband coverage (not provided by Verizon) and might be Rev. A or Rev. 0. Even if one compares just Verizon's native Broadband coverage clearly it dwarfs AT&T's 3G.
