AT&T should thank Verizon...

...And send a letter of such.

It is said that a business should thank their competition more than their friends.

A friend will mostly hold back insults or constructive criticism in respect to not hurt your feelings. A competitor will not. They will be relentless and go out of their way to bring you down. If not for a competitor, A business would become lazy. Nothing would go forward.

That is exactly what has happened here.

AT&T has sat on any advancements to benefit their subscribers. What they have successfully done is completely relied on their friends(New and current subscribers for the iphone) and essentially perceived this as a compliment for their services and being the best. Verizon has detected this and zoomed in on the ...

I don't think AT&T will respond until they actually start losing customers. AT&T won the 3rd quarter. Do you truly believe they are going to spend cash to build out (rather than enhance) their 3G? As long as consumers are signing up for the iphone and churn is low. They will do nothing. AT&T is rarely proactive. They react when Verizon makes a move. Verizon rolls out an Unlimited Plan... AT&T matches it the same day. Verizon re-brands My Circle as Friends and Family... Here comes AT&T With A-List (with Rollover). They NEVER felt the need to do A-List when it was just T-Mobile and Alltel offering it. My fear is that Verizon is going to roll out LTE and build out the LTE network and use if for Voice AND Data and AT&T will slowly ro...

I am not the biggest Verizon fan but I don't hate them. However, I absolutetly loathe AT&T and am with you on their ride with the iphone. They are simply the legalized crime kingpins. I agree that AT&T is not willing to change at this juncture. They will smoke screen their subs until drastic churns start to emerge.

While I can't speak for AJ, I am almost sure that he will agree with me that Verizon did not build out most of their network. Verizon has always practiced buying markets rather than build them. That money had to come from somewhere. While the outcome is the same point, The disipline of actually building from the ground up, was lost. Verizon was lucky in the acquistion of Alltel. Sprint was the other logical choice at time of sa...

I agree with you about Verizon being lucky on the Altel acquisition, a bigger a conmpany is the less they compete.

Hey Slammer, what did you mean when you wrote " Do I pay higher fees every month for the flash in the pan trip" Flash in the pan trip?

It'll be very interesting when this whole ATT/Verizon feud actually ends up in court! As far as I know though there isn't an actual court date though.

Flash in the pan is an old saying. It generally relates to something that looks like its going to happen, But does not.

19th century gold prospectors used to skim for gold using pans. The quick shiny flash in the pan, made them think it was a reflection from gold. Many times it was not.

The more accurate origin is powder in the pan of a flintlock musket, would sometimes flare up like it was going to discharge the round, yet it would not happen.

So basically my point is many people will say they need coverage yet they truly never use the full potential.

Kinda like me having a 16gb memory card in my phone, and only using half. To me it's just peace of mind knowing the available memory is there.

Paying a little more for a flash card with more capacity is one thing. Paying more EVERY MONTH for minutes one never uses or for a plan which includes global roaming when one will never leave D.C. is another.

Sprint could have purchased Alltel rather than Nextel long ago. Heck, Scott Ford of Alltel tried to buy Sprint a few times.

This is one of the better comments I've seen so far. Verizon is the one who finally spoke up and basically said "Hey AT&T, the truth hurts man, but I gotta say, your 3G coverage SUCKS!"

It is AT&T's fault for not enhancing and expanding their network. They put too much trust in their devices and their numbers. But devices get outdated and numbers can easily change, especially if people see another carrier doing a better job. Furthermore, AT&T isn't learning from it. I've read articles that said AT&T isn't interested in LTE this early. They want to upgrade their 3G network some more. They will be left in the dark while Verizon becomes the largest 4G network.

*Tisk Tisk* AT&T, being 2nd largest carrier in the US and having 3rd la...
