"AT&T failed to invest adequately in the necessary infrastructure to expand its 3G coverage to support its growth in smartphone business, and the usefulness of its service to smartphone users has suffered accordingly"

Verizon Wireless just admitted they're mixing up 3G coverage vs. 3G quality.

What are you talking about? Not only did Verizon say AT&T's 3G network COVERAGE lacks, but the 3G coverage that IS THERE has been expanded so poorly, it can't support smartphones. Verizon clearly attacks both the COVERAGE AND QUALITY of AT&T's network. It's plainly obvious to anyone that can read, which is why it may be difficult to understand to an AT&T fanboy.

Being a wireless fanboy is completely stupid as supporting a wireless company does nothing but make it worse for customers. The more they are criticized, the more they are forced to increase quality for customers.

AT&T absolutely failed to invest in their 3G network. As early as 2004 during the AT&T Wireless aquisition the talk was "UMTS can come later, no need to invest now". AT&T Wireless was already doing the UMTS thing but Cingular was not interested in that. They didn't have the vision to forsee the immediate need for this much bandwidth and speed.

And now it seems that ATT has the same exact lagging aproach with LTE that they had with UMTS/HSPA.

Yeah pretty sad. If they hadn't been or continue to be so stupid they would more than likely have a 3G footprint almost if not the same as VZW.

Yep, they certainly have enough data revenue to do so.

Sorry dude or dudette. VZ just b-slapped ATT again. It also should make you wonder what has ATT been doing with its money and why it has such a small 3G footprint. I know that VZ bought out Alltel but their 3G footprint still would have been significantly larger than ATT. Even Sprint has a significantly larger footprint and they only operate in the PCS band. Even TMobile has lit up 3G areas at a fast pace and plan on upgrading to HSPA+ next year while ATT is still talking about 7.2. Complacency maybe?

The reason VZ spend 28Bn to buy Alltel wasn't to move to the top of the carriers list on Phonescoop. It was to gets its hands on all those towers. They knew it was all 3g long before the checkbook came out.

Brain dead ATT is still just playing with its stupid little phone. There is no cure for stupid.

The iphone vz Droid? The Droid is now, today, hot the, iphone is so 2007.

dude what you dont know is that customers on verizon wish they were with att since they have better phones and faster 3g service your talking about coverage map ummm verizon cant leave the country like att sorry buddy my iphone puts the droid to sleep still after 3 years verizon still cant compete. i dont go to north dakota i live in a top 100 city i have no problem with my phone both coverage and data b-slappppppp to verizon, att ports in at a ratio of 3-1 to verizon so whoever turned down the iphone at verizon made a big mistake and verizon is seeing that in their pockets thats why all their sales reps got a pay cut

Dude

Phones is an interesting word to use. I would say PHONE. The only phone ever really advertised is the iPhone and that is the sole reason for AT&T's continued success in net adds. AT&T added 2 million subscribers, most of which were iPhone users.

As for faster 3G... maybe in a few spots. Just read all of the national reviews and studies and you will see that the consistency of the networks' speeds does not favor AT&T.

What coverage map are your talking about? AT&T has the ability to be used in Europe... woohoo. So can my Storm2. Anyway, how many times are you jet-setting to Rome this year?

I would like to see you show me a map for where their plans cover outside the U.S. That is the real story here. There are none....

FYI Sprint runs on CDMA Technology on the 850 mhz and 1900 mhz same as VZW. Check Tmobiles 3g footprint data....not big at all.
