So where's at&t's 3G map that shows the misleading statement
All they show on their site is their data coverage, but they don't show their 3G data coverage, which is what Verizon's commercials are clearly referring to.

It isn't about 3G maps or 3G coverage, it's about Verizon claiming without 3G, an AT&T customer will be "out of touch."
That is blatantly false, but consider this is the same company that once claimed to have a faster PTT network than Nextel (over 1x!)

Obviously the commercials, and the maps they show, have nothing to do with voice coverage, only data. So being "in touch" by means of voice conversation is irrelevant. Within the context of the ads, only means of communication that require or benefit from highspeed data are pertinent, such as watching streaming videos, checking email with large attachments, and browsing the web.
If you consider checking facebook or even phonescoop to be your way of staying "in touch" with the rest of the internet-connected universe, then having 3G signal is pretty necessary to staying "in ...

It's only open for interpretation because the topic is controversial and driven by ideology.
"Out of touch" in any other setting or conversation would mean just that, and no one would be trying to interpret it some other way.
Besides, using his logic only makes Verizon look worse. They would be guilty of using terminology that was intentionally misleading since it allowed for a variety of interpretations.

I actually used Nextel BB 7100i for a few years, and had no issues with SMS / Email (why else would I have a BB). Even Google Maps worked on the 7100i over iDEN data.
