This talk is great and all, but I totally agree with you folks on this one. Where is your 3g coverage ?? Seriously, a 3 mile radius in every 'major market' is doesn't mean you have coverage. T-mobile was talking about how great their 3G network was going to be back in 2006 and here we are almost 2010 and you couldn't find a 3g signal if your life depended on it. I don't hate t-mobile [in fact i'm a customer] but I'll call out the BS when I see it.
Better yet, if t-mobile can't even get device manufacturers to make something that works with their 3g network, what makes them think that will receive any support with their imaginary new network ?? And T-mobile's poor support and advertising is totally to blame. For example, aside from the te...

Your points are well taken, and I agree with what you said for the most part. I have to point out that AT&T doesn't have great coverage either, and they have had 3G a lot longer than T-Mobile. Just watch the map comparison in the Motorola DROID commercials the great, red communist check mark, VZW, puts out. This is probably the result of CDMA being much more dominate in the states, than GSM in the rest of the world. I also totally agree on your assessment of T-Mobile and their inability to get phone manufactures to create devices utilizing their 3G 1700 AWS radio. (And I am a T-Mo customer too, BTW). The N900 will not be a flop if, and only if, Nokia starts advertising that they have unlocked phones here to sell in the states that are fully ...

I still believe the reason for the difference in 3G coverage between AT&T and Verizon is while AT&T worried about speed, Verizon worried about coverage. AT&T, it seems, would start with a speed, but instead of expanding it, they'd just improve the speed in that area. Verizon stayed with EVDO and expanded that to the map you see today. Only after their map was pretty full did they move to EVDO Rev. A. Sure, both are slower than AT&T's HSPA+, but it's in more places.

I hope this is the path T-Mobile is taking, to just quicken the speed where there is 3G and not expand it.

Yeah I am going to have to disagree with your statement that is a 3 mile radius. I live outside of Dallas, TX that has 30,000 people. I have 3G there, I have it in every city in the Dallas/Fort Worth area which is well over 100 sqaure miles. Even in small towns I have perfect coverage with T-mobile.

You are most certainly INCORRECT sir.

Do you have a 3g Tmobile device?
If not, that probably explains why you have no idea what youre talking about.
True, Tmobile 3g is only in more populated markets, but its not as minimal as you may think. I get 3g all over california, even away from the major cities.
Second, how do you mean Tmobile cant get manufacturers to make a 3g phone? That is also very clearly INCORRECT.
other than that, yes Tmobile doesnt have the $$ to force commercials down the consumers' throat, which does hurt their business.

Here's in ohio, there are huge stretches of edge, with only 4 cities covered by 3g [cleveland, columbus, dayton, and toledo] . Even Cincinnati has no 3g. Maybe is time to move

The N900 was made for t-mobile (in north america) because it only supports 1700/2100 aws 3g. There was an intentional exclusion of 850/1900 (att's 3g band) . All other high end Nokia phone such as n95, n95 8gb, n85, n86, n97, 5800, n73 .... All had what is/was known as the north american 3g frequecies 850/1900 that operated on At&t 3G. There are many more GSM users of 3G on AT&t network because its older and more widespread so if they were looking at it strictly in terms of numbers, they would have released it to that audience like they did wit all their other flagship/high end devices.
