Geez, after lagging as long as they have, Verizon is certainly making up for it this month. This phone really does seem as too good to be true. When I was in Korea recently, video calling was all the rave and really awesome. If Verizon pulls off LTE implementation across its network and keeps their voice call quality, they will be THE cell phone provider in the US period. Where's the Sphone!

I Like the concept of this phone. I bet it will do well which is good for me because I guarantee others will follow. I will stay with sprint and wait for them to have video sharing-calls thats cool. Sphone where are you? 🤣

This will be very interesting. But lets really hope verizon don't dumb this phone down, *crossing my fingers* I really hope not. This phone has a lot of potential to make others step their game up. 😁

Is Verizon's current network even capable of 2 way live video sharing? I wonder what kind of video quality it will be.

I think it will depend on the device? If that is so, then it is kind of disappointing that the vphone will probably use the VGA camera for sharing. Or maybe the quality will just be low no matter the camera, just in the phasing in stages of the feature. That would explain the low resolution in the facing camera.

With the exception of laptops 1.3mp user facing camera, I believe all cell phones that do have user facing cameras are vga.

I'll put money down that the video-share "phone calls" will only work in Wi-Fi coverage.

Rev A networks are fast enough to do VGA video-sharing, but Verizon has chosen not to deploy actual "phone calling" capability in their Rev A network, just data and push-to-talk.

You could do a video-conference webinar type connection over the Rev A, but that's just video over IP, not a traditional "phone call" that runs simultaneous video. You get the same thing from the webcam on a netbook- it's not a new product, just a smaller package.

It's doubtful that Verizon will rework their Rev A network to support simultaneous voice and data just to enhance the capabilities of an unbranded phone when LTE is so close at hand and will have that kind o...

Doesn't it take really good upload speeds to do quality video conferencing? My laptop doesnt't have a webcam built-in, besides, unless my mother, and sisters also have a webcam capability it wouldn't be much use to me.

The other carriers, I guarentee you will be stepping their games up. Being in the wireless industry, wow have there been some technological breakthroughs in the industry over this past year. So many changes in the way you see your wireless service and device are happening right now, it is phenomenal the things that are soon to come! For examples, look beyond the phones! Unlimited calling plans are all over the place and cheap cheap prices, even with postpaid services! Look at international calling rates, even postpaid services all over are evolving! Especially look at Mexico and Canada plans. This is really the time for competition!

You make a great point! As long as they keep their calling network even, then they get the point on the scoreboard! Don't forget the 3G coverage too! Hope there are no emergency outages due to the holiday buying rush that's sure to come for this new device and its new features.

Yeah....it's really interesting that Saygus states their video streaming call technology can run on EDGE networks. That means that the existing infrastructure should be able to support equipped devices quite easily. It's about time we caught up with the rest of the civilized world!
