Open Development and Apple

If this is truly legitimate then theoretically Apple could do the same thing as Saygus. Basically, create a device that passes Verizon testing and sell directly to those eighty plus million Verizon customers.

Love or hate the iPhone, if Apple made a CDMA iPhone, VZW (this time) will snatch it in a NY minute, and have cute little commercials showing how much better it will be on their network then AT&T's, and I don't blame them.

I also think, VZW would sell easy like 20 million in a year or so. And more would be sold if they opened it to all North American CDMA carriers.

20 million is a conservative number. Not only would a lot of vzw customers jump for it, but a huge chunk of att iphone customers would jump ship, especially if they made it work with the new CDMA tech that allowed data/voice of EVDO, or offered LTE.

Without a doubt. Problem with voice/data on cdma is they used evdo-0 and A. I forgot the name of the cdma standard that allows both.

It's EVDV. Sprint tried it, but it proved too expensive.

They just released an update possibility with Evdo-RevA that would allow phones to handle data and voice at the same time without switching to EVDV, but I don't know if Verizon (or sprint) will invest in it, since they are both pushing for 4g

Of course, EV-DV but there was also an EV-DO path that would have allowed it, but rather than devote resources to upgrading to Rev. C or whatever Verizon chose to go with LTE so no point.

I highly doubt att customers would jump ship.....thats pushing it. AT&T and Verizon have the same pricing when it comes to plans, yet not only does AT&T have the A-List, but with Rollover customers do get a lot more for their money. And about the commercial, wonder why Verizon got sued for it?? Because they made false claims. They showed their 3G coverage and their lower coverage areas alongside ONLY AT&T's 3G coverage. If you include the AT&T lower coverage as well, since it is only fair if Verizon gets to too, it paints a very different picture. BTW, with smartphone users, like with the iPhone, (well with all phones, but it is more popular to be used with smartphones) AT&T is the only carrier that has two complete networks. That is, one fo...

1. They got sued for implying that data will not work outside of 3g. ATT is not contesting their depiction of 3g, or their claim to have 5x the 3g coverage. This was in EVERY press release so I don't know how you guys continue to miss it. If I am wrong at this, please post ANY article that is showing ATT is saying that the coverage claims are false.

1a. Verizon's "There's a map for that" is ONLY showing their 3g (EVDO) coverage, it is NOT showing their 1xrtt (voice) coverage (which is much larger). If you don't believe me, go to verizon's website, toggle broadband access. The areas in blue=EVDO=There's a map for that ads. Verizon spent Billions updating their entire network to 3g instead of just upgrading the speeds in the same ma...

Verizon's 'lower' coverage (1x) is technically 3G as well. I have been attacked for saying that it is not surprising that AT&T is sueing (what else are they going to do: build out their 3G? Have Edge declared 3G?) I don't blame them. It is worth a try and better than just sitting back while Verizon kicks them in the teeth. Still I doubt they will win and Verizon does not appear to be backing down so we will see what happens. I have plenty of popcorn.

I believe that the map on the commercial includes 1x, but we can agree to disagree on it.

This article did not form my opinion. I have held my opinion about 1x as far back as October (or earlier) and posted in the AT&T forum. But it does agree with me. Of course, the author certainly may have an AT&T bias but I don't.

Apple just resigned their contract to us, AT&T. I have heard so many rumors, and people come to our store all day long swearing that their carrier (and Ive heard some ridiculious claims including Sprint all the way to MetroPCS and Boost!! I know you will all choke on that with laughter!) will soon be offering the iPhone. I have even heard people swear that they got an offer "in the mail" but fail to bring it back to show me! The truth is, we just resigned. The iPhone is going nowhere. Now I do not know if that means all of Apple is in contract, but I know at least that phone is. But they are not in the works with anything else, so I think maybe it is all of Apple....ay but don't bash me if I'm wrong about the entirety of Apple thing, ok!! Lo...

It would be a really dumb move on Apples part to re-sign, and completely counter to their international policies (notice how most areas now have 1-2 carriers offering the device?)

With Sprint and Verizon both rolling out 4g, tmobile rolling out 3g that directly competes with att's coverage and speeds, and several smaller players becoming popular, there is a lot of potential profit for apple, and because of their success, they can work out some very beneficial contract agreements with the companies, even if they are no longer exclusive with them.

you're also the person who said that vzw was going bankrupt 🤨 🤨 🤨

Why should we take this "official" information as any more valid?

How come Apple's been looking for Electronics Engineers specializing in CDMA technologies? Their online job want posts say otherwise.

Will never happen. And - who really wants one? (other than 12-18 year olds) I don't want a phone that has to be hacked in order have my choice in third party applications. +1 for Saygus though
