... figuring out how this is useful. It's not lik e phone screen is big enough to make typing from a distance useful. Now you have two separate pieces to hold instead of one.

I'd really like to know who asked for this?

I am pretty sure verizon had a hard time pushing out the Versa until they dropped the price to 49.99 then it looked like an attractive option. When it first came out, it had the keyboard packaged with it, and then they repackaged it and sold the keyboard seperately for extra money. It didn't have much of a chance with the ENVY Touch releasing right after it. It was less expensive, keyboard included, and better camera. They tried to really push it with the release of Transformers, but, it never quite caught fire. Now they are clearing stock of the phone. Hence the 29.99 online special that they had for a couple days.

So what I gather from your post is that there will NOT be a Versa 2.

Here Azeron, I thought you'd be interested in this: It's Clear's 3rd qtr info, kind of modest I think. They're certainly doing a damn good job of marketing, that's for sure!!!

Total subscribers increased to approximately 555,000 at the end of the third quarter of 2009, up from approximately 469,000 on a pro forma basis at the end of the third quarter 2008. Total subscribers in the Company’s 13 CLEAR 4G markets (both new markets and legacy markets recently upgraded to CLEAR 4G service) were approximately 173,000 at the end of September. On a consolidated basis Clearwire added approximately 44,000 net new subscribers during the third quarter of 2009. This third quarter increase included the addition of approximately 49,000 net new subs...

That may sound similar, but it's actually quite different. The Versa keyboard is one you detach when you want to leave it at home. This is one you can detach and still use.

Basically it is a touchscreen phone until one wants to do heavy duty texting or Internet then use the keyboard.

But where's the utility in detaching the keyboard? You either have to carry it around or attach it to the phone. A phone is a handheld device, it seems to me detaching the keyboard is less convenient.

I wonder whatever happened to the keyboards I read about quite some time ago that you don't actually press the key, but it detects variations in light, another words it detects the shadow of your finger when you hit a key, do you get what I'm saying? I think it's called a laser keyboard.

You mean the ones that just projected an image of a keyboard onto any surface? I tried one at CES. I thought it was painful to type on... literally. Tapping away on a hard surface like a table is brutal on you finger-tips. Plus without physical keys to feel, typing becomes a challenging exercise in hand-eye coordination. You really have to stare at the keyboard image and concentrate. I didn't like it at all.

I bet its a pain. Technology is not so much about functionality is as it is about just proving that you can take an idea and make it a reality at this point.

I looked into the versa, seems to me like a lot of people dig the detachable keyboard, so im assuming that is the same reaction this company is hoping for and trying to make it that much better by making to bluetooth, but i still wont purchase it because cellphone from Japan are waaaay out of my league
