My heart goes out to those losing their jobs not only before the Holiday Season but at such a time as this. Let's face it, Sprint is making every appropriate move in the positive direction that looks quite promising to me. It's their fiduciary duty to their shareholders to lay off all of these workers and I hope they get employment elsewhere.

Amen, I agree with your statement. They are simply relieving a heavy load thats really not a necessity but more of a luxury to have all the agents they have. They can let some go and possibly have the remaining agents work a little harder and give better bonuses to make sure the remaining agents don't get exhausted and discouraged. Smart strategy before the holiday season to try to bring in profits. ๐Ÿ˜‰

obama has been in office almost a year now. at some point he has to take responsiblity for the economy and everything else that is going on in the country. you and everyone else can't blame bush forever, and it's not racist if you disagree with someone and their policies.

A recession this deep will likely take much longer than a year to recover from. Economist are predicting grown in the 3rd qtr of next year, also known as, not anytime soon. And that was just a prediction.

Exactly. What did people think Obama would come into office, snap his fingers, end a war and turn the economy around before dinner. WTF dumb***es. To blame this countries situation on somebody to has barely been in office for a year is just stupid.

But back on topic...I work for Sprint (not in fear of losing my job luckily though) and while I feel for all those losing their jobs Sprint probably does have a lot of unnecessary contractors & jobs that could be consilidated. It's a smart business move, it sucks that it's necessary, but I honostly think its for the best in the long term.

As much as I hate Obama's politics- this just doesn't happen to be his fault.

The real problem is pretty clear- Sprint's leadership feels a need to spend more money than it can afford to spend- and then they have to make cuts to save that money somewhere else. The discouraging thing is that the company has made great strides in customer service, and now much of that will be negated. It doesn't matter how well the people in the stores or on the phone resolve your issues- if you have to wait three hours for it to happen you'll have a negative impression.

At least AT&T will move ahead of Sprint again soon. As Sprint watches that happen they may decide to bring some of the employees back.

I agree... the economy, in general, was pumped up after 9/11 with low interest loans, causing a HUGE boost in the economy, however, people bought too much on credit / cheap loans, and now they can't afford them. Until this country (and others) get back to keeping credit in check, the economy will suffer.

Speaking of keeping credit in check, either next August, or next September I will be completly debt free!!! Can't wait!!! Every single payday I'm paying $260, if I get OT, even more. Looking forward to putting this behind me and moving on with life, and being able to shoot pool more, and go to the movies more!!!

People knew that unemployment was going to go over %10 before Obama took office, it was inevitable. This whole mess started in September last year, probably too late for Bush to make that much of a difference by the end of his term.

Anyway, this news headline isn't about the national unemployment. It's about a company that has been working to regain solid ground for AT LEAST 3yrs.

I cant believe Im even going to waste my time with ignorance... Obama has been in office for 9 months. The economy collapsed before Obama was in office due to the republicans irresponsible management of the government. You would be dumb to think that if anyother person would have gotten into the chair the economy would have instantly recovered. All economist (republican and democrat) have all stated that the economy and unemployment rate would get worst before it gets better. This was stated before anyone won the election.

Yes the unemployment rat...

Well I wouldn't open that can of worms here...
Thanks all of the two faced politicians, greedy things done by the Bernie Madoffs, and the sleazy lenders working in conjunction with greedier Realtors that caused the bubble that just bursted in our faces. I believe that we have effectively devalued everything that is American by these ridiculous bailouts and big government ironically trying to run the 'free market'. I'm not making light of losing a job by any means,I just hate the fact that hard working people that hold this very economy up have to suffer when everyone else's greed at the top screws it up.

It is right. This recession will take much, much longer than one year to recover. Secondly, it began too late (September 200๐Ÿ˜Ž in Bush's term for him to make an impact in it.

Thirdly, Sprint has been trying to restructure for 3 YEARS, of which has nothing to do with politics, it has to do with worthless execs.
Sprint having problems in nothing new.

I know!!! This whole Sprint headline has nothing to do with EITHER Obama or Bush, it has to do with bad execs that Sprint had in the past. Nor does it have anything to do with 2009. Sprint has been trying to restructure for what? At least 3yrs now.

I love the nonsensical comments about the President being responsible for everything. 9 months isn't time enough to overcome 8 years of poor leadership.

And more relative to the point, companies have been laying off employees since they began. It is smart business if you understand it. Yes, It sucks for the people who lose their jobs, but it also means the company keeping its doors open and many more people staying employed.

you used "week instead of "weak" and "date instead of "debt."

That says a lot.

Also, do you really believe that someone can get us out of debt in 9 months? Try taking a macroeconomics course and come back for a real conversation.

...for the current Prez. PR.

He must have it made. No matter what happens or when it happens, it is not his fault!

He is doing so much for the country. Plus he only gets credit. When it comes to fault, hey it is not his problem. And as an extra added bonus any one even starts to find fault they are called racist!

Wonderful!

Wow and they called Clinton "slick".

Now what follows this will be shooting me down and continue PR for the Prez. March in line people. Be good little robots!
