If someone does it the others will do it too. It reflects their bottom line and could help a stock price. Greed, good luck to all of us.

Really? No one has ever followed Sprint's lead in the past when they have laid off employees.

No one follows Sprint because no one makes as many mistakes as Sprint.

They aren't following Sprints business model but they are getting ready to do this. The time is when everyone is hitting the recession (except maybe verizon) so to bolster investor confidence and stock price, they dump together.

As stated by someone else here, Sprint is one of the few Wireless companies that doesn't have a Parent company with a large profit. Verizon Wireless has Vodafone & Verizon land line, T-mobile has their overseas parent, AT&T has their land line parent, US Cellular is Privately owned, the others such as Cricket & MetroPCS I don't know the details of, however they are profitable enough to maintain what they have....

Both ATT's landline and wireless are under the same exact name, so therefore wouldn't it all be ONE company?

AT&T Mobility reports numbers separately so analysts are able to determine which division does what.

That is Verizon Communications (one of Verizon Wireless' parent companies). Those are fios and landline...not wireless jobs. Wireless carries landline as far as profitability goes. I'm not saying that it is okay for anyone to lose their job but compare apples to apples. When I was with VZW, AT&T laid off some landline workers and one of my peers emailed crowing about it and I corrected her. AT&T Mobility and Verizon Wireless are MAKING their parent companies money.

Well yeah, theres a major shift in this country from wired to wireless, last time I heard the numbers, 20% of the country is all wireless. Including me, I haven't had a landline in at least 8yrs.

Good point, Sprint has made a whole lot of mistakes. But WiMAX won't be a mistake, they have lots, and lots of smart partners.

8qtrs, also knows as long, long before Obama took office. The poster that turned this discussion into a political one is way, way off base. This whole thing with Sprint has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with bad execs.

Sprint has already laid off thousands of employees because they keep losing money every quarter because so many post-paid subscribers are leaving in droves.

It is really sad, and I think in a year, Sprint may drop down to number 4. T-Mobile is getting close to Sprint now in terms of subscribers, and they ain't doing so hot either.

You're right, T-Mobile is doing just fine and even if they weren't, their parent company has a ton of money. That's the one thing about Sprint, there is no parent company. T-Mobile, AT&T Mobility, and Verizon Wireless are all divisions of their corporate parents. Sprint, as far as I know, is only wireless and have no other divisions. Sucks, but what can you do.

I still think Dan Hesse will save the company. When I was still with Sprint, it was a lot more efficient and fair. Folks complain now, but if I had to pick a carrier and go without the iPhone...Sprint all the way.

I really like Sprint. I am not sure what they can do to staunch the bleeding. They have great plans, great network...just can't seem to escape their past reputation and Nextel remains an anchor dragging them to the depths.

I've heard foreign customer service hasn't been a very popular thing with Sprint customers.

Disclaimer: I am not a Sprint customer.

I think you complained recently about Dell's customer service being foreign.

Gotta be able to understand people when on the phone, duh!!!

Being that I sell wireless, I talk to various carrier's customer serivce often, and I cant think of a time in the last 2 years when I've had a sprint rep I couldnt understand, or who wasn't helpful and courteous on the phone. (Much different from when I first had sprint for my personal carrier years ago)

T-Mo on the other hand, I have difficulty with every time I call. and It takes me on average 3 times as long on the phone with t-mo compared to sprint.

Sprint's CS has come a long way, now they just need to get the word out. Remember that good news travels much slower than bad.

I'm a little confused, isn't ATT more so a division than part of a parent company? I mean both the landline, and wireless are under the same exact name.

Greed?!?! lol How about they're trying to stay above water. They have the cheapest plans (low profit margin). They're still shedding customers on a net basis and the majority of new customers are lower revenue. How do you keep the same costs without a steady or increasing revenue base? You have to cut costs somewhere.

I read the forums all the time but I never post anything, as I am firewalled from doing so at work. I work for a large competitor of Sprint, and while yes, I do enjoy hearing that we're doing significantly better then they, I feel very bad for the employee's losing their jobs. Sprints failures are not their fault- it's bad decision making in their leadership.

I wish all of you Sprint employees the best of luck, it's a bad economy, and I hope you all get on your feet again.

Yeah, I know, I think that is so, so weird when people are private on here, heck none of us know each others first or last names, it's just a username, it can't be tracked back to anything. Though I do happen to use the same username on ebay that I do on Phone Scoop, but so what.

If anything, it's far worse when companies like AT&T and Verizon lay off workers considering the fact they are booming and Sprint is just surviving. These workers could be relocated within their company, but instead they are getting the axe.
